Former City stars sign up for Eamonn Dolan memorial match

A total of 26 players have now signed up for the Eamonn Dolan Memorial Match with Richard Logan, Glenn Cronin, Alan Gow and John Hodge all set for a return to St James Park.

The game, which is being held on Sunday, October 23, with a 1pm kick-off, will see two Exeter City XIs made up of players Eamo played with, managed or brought through battle it out at St James Park with all the money raised going to two chosen causes – Action Bladder Cancer UK and Exeter City Academy.

Glenn Cronin was an integral part of Eamo’s side when he was manager at Exeter City. The Dublin-born midfielder, now 35, was made captain for the 2003/04 season and made 45 appearances for the Grecians that season.

He represents a core of players who will be taking part in the match who played under Eamo which also include Scott Hiley, Steve Flack, Barry McConnell, Sean Devine, Chris Todd, James Bittner, Martin Rice, Stuart Fraser, Andy Taylor, Les Afful, Geoff Breslan and Gareth Sheldon.

John Hodge signed for Exeter City when manager Alan Ball was in charge in 1991. He is perhaps best remembered for netting a double against Peter Shilton’s Plymouth Argyle side at Home Park in a 3-0 victory in the early 1990s. He also topped the goalscoring charts for the club in the 1992/93 campaign scoring nine times in 42 games.

He is one of a number of players who played with Eamo who have signed up for the match. That list also includes Danny Bailey, Jon Brown, Dave Cooper, Gary Rice, Andy Cook, Toby Redwood and Andy Harris

Alan Gow and Richard Logan are big names from Exeter City’s more recent history. Alan joined City in the summer of 2012 and netted 14 times in 45 appearances for the Grecians and put in some memorable performances for the club including away at Gillingham in November 2012 and at home to Plymouth Argyle in October 2013.

Logie is best-known for his goal away at Rotherham in 2009 that got the Grecians promoted to League One. The popular striker scored 48 goals for the Grecians between January 2007 and July 2012. He was an integral part of the Paul Tisdale side that achieved back-to-back promotions from the Conference to League One.

Three players from West Ham United have also signed up for the match these include Steve Potts, Geoff Pike and Chis Ampofo.

The match will be refereed by Exeter City supporter Mike Mullarkey who has officiated at two FIFA World Cups and ran the line at the 2010 World Cup final in South Africa between Spain and Holland.
