An Exeter Daily reader today blamed Westpoint for much of the traffic chaos ahead of Elton John's concery in Exeter last night.

Gary, from Yeovil,  said the problems appeared to be due to the parking of vehicles once inside the ground.

In an email, he said: "One marshall told us that 'people had arrived in the wrong cars' suggesting that people were having difficulty parking on the wet grass unless they were in a 4x4.

"When we got near to the parking places it was obvious that there were very few stewards visible and there seemed to be no coordination whatsoever.

"There was also confusion over those who had pre-paid for parking and those who had not, this seemed to add to the delays caused by the lack of stewards.  There was no problem parking on wet grass for any vehicle that we saw.

"We got to our seats just before the Elton came on stage and missed the support act.  The show was great. Towards the end of the concert we left early to avoid the traffic, or so we thought.

"We were directed to a dirt track on the perimeter of the ground and we then sat in a queue at a standstill for over an hour and a half.  There appeared to be no coordination whatsoever and once again very few marshalls to be seen.

"All this was witnessed and experienced for £5 per car if you had pre-paid, (£10 on the day) which was utterly disgraceful.
The standard of marshalling to enter and the marshalling inside the venue was also very poor but that's another story.

"You might have thought that this was the first time that Westpoint had ever staged a major event such was the chaos caused by too few marshalls and lack of coordination once inside the grounds.

"There was nothing wrong with the traffic flow outside the grounds, the tailbacks at the start and queues to get out after the show were totally the responsibility of Westpoint. A great show on-stage marred by an abysmal show by those off-stage."
