A Devon man enjoyed a complimentary weekend of relaxation at one of Exeter’s top hotels after running around the whole world!

Kevin Carr, who has become the fastest man to run, solo and unsupported around the globe, in 621 days, had a well-deserved rest at the Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel in Southernhay.

The team at the city centre hotel decided to offer Kevin a free weekend, after hearing about his incredible achievement, which saw Kevin, from Woolacombe, arrived back in the county at Haytor on 9 April beating the existing world record by less than 24 hours.

Kevin had full use of the restaurant, bar and lounge area, health club and pool, to help recover from a tough two years.

Tamsyn Parsons, Sales Manager at the Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel, said: “We were more than happy to welcome Kevin after he finished his amazing adventure. After spending two years running more than a marathon a day, he deserved to have a well earnt rest and we made sure  this stay was as comfortable as possible here here at the Southgate.”

Kevin ensured that he didn’t leave without thanking the staff at the Mercure Exeter Southgate for their hospitality and was happy to pose for pictures with some of the team.

The 34-year-old, who comes from Woolacombe, ran the equivalent of a marathon a day for nearly two years. Pushing all of his equipment in a custom built trolleyas he ran, on his world run he nearly got attacked by a bear, endured extreme weather, attacks by packs of wild dogs and got run over twice.

Beginning his journey at Haytor on Dartmoor in July 2013, he arrived home on April 9 after a gruelling 621 days, one day earlier than the previous record holder Tom Denniss. Crossing 26 countries, he got through 16 pairs of shoes and became the first man to embark on the challenge unsupported.

Kevin said: “I was delighted to take up The Southgate's kind offer of a weekend stay. In fact having been around the world it's the acts of kindness and hospitality that stay with you. To say I was in need of rest is of course a bit of an understatement so it was great to have some rest in the surrounds of the Southgate and adjust a little to not running everyday!”

Kevin has been raising money for the mental health charity SANE and the British Red Cross, to make a donation visit www.justgiving.com/teams/hardwayround

Kevin's world run will be ratified by the World Running Association before he is formally crowned the fastest person to have run around the world.
