Exeter celebrities' incredible charity prize

Two of the west country’s most celebrated singing and cooking icons are teaming up to offer an unique and exclusive dinner prize to raise money for charity.

Folk singer Steve Knightley and Michelin-starred chef Michael Caines are to offer a 10 person private dining experience at the chef’s new exclusive restaurant Lympstone Manor with folk hero Steve Knightley performing a private concert for guests.

The astonishing offer has been kindly donated by the Show Of Hands lead singer and celebrity chef to raise money for the 19240 Shrouds of the Somme project.

The 19240 project has been jointly put together by Steve Knightley and his friend artist Rob Heard who is hand-stitching 19,240 shrouded figures to represent the allied soldiers who fell on the first day of the battle of the Somme.

They will be unveiled in Exeter’s Northernhay Gardens at 7:30am on 1st July 2016, exactly 100 years to the minute since the whistle was blown to ‘go over the top’ and begin the horrific battle.

An education project for schools and an appeal to help create a national database of the fallen aims to make sure the 19240 Shrouds of the Somme becomes a legacy for future generations.

The project is raising money for service charities and the charity dinner at the Exeter Chiefs ground on April 16th has an exclusive list of auction prizes and will be attended by England and Exeter rugby stars who are supporting the project.

A Beating Retreat and spectacular musical entertainment from the The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, a gourmet dinner and auction from Flog It!’s star Paul Martin will complete the evening.

Other auction prizes include: The first figure, number 00001, is to be made available; an exclusive Rob Heard Bough House Castle; a sweat and cold survival weekend; a signed and framed Chris Gayle Shirt; 2 Exeter Chiefs VIP tickets; a Jack Nowell signed and framed 6 Nations Shirt; Dick Twinny framed print 'The Boys’; Exclusive Woodbury Park membership worth £5,000; a half day Land Rover experience for two people; limousine ride to tea with the Mayor of Exeter and a tour of the historic Guildhall.

England and Exeter Rugby stars Jack Nowell and Henry Slade will be joining the Somme Centenary Dinner at Sandy Park on 16th April. Tickets are still available. For more information contact enquiries@exeterfoundation.org.uk
