Matford Landrover pushes up Teenage Cancer Trust funds

A team of staff at Matford Land Rover did 14,000 push-ups before Christmas as part of a “Push up challenge” to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust. Each of the 11 team members had a daily push up target and they have raised over £600, which will help to support teenagers and young adults whose lives have been turned upside down following a cancer diagnosis.

Dominic Trewin of Matford Land Rover said “Matford Land Rover have been delighted to support Teenage Cancer Trust. The charity was chosen after the team was inspired by the charity’s amazing care of Nadia Hobbs, sister to Jake Hobbs who is part of the team at Matford Land Rover during her treatment two years ago. Nadia and her family have since helped raise thousands of pounds in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust and as a result helped with the opening of a new room for young cancer patients at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

“The fundraising challenge was put forward by our Sales Manager, Tony Pearson and it was fantastic to see so many of the team join in and take part in this challenge. Teenage Cancer Trust does such an incredible job in supporting young cancer patients during what is already a tricky stage in their lives. We hope that our efforts and the donations from our generous supporters can help continue the amazing work the Teenage Cancer Trust team does day in day out.”

Each year, over 220 young people in the South West are diagnosed with cancer. Teenage Cancer Trust funds and builds specialist units in NHS hospitals and provides dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts.

In September, the charity funded the revamp of a room at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital making it more appropriate for Teenager and Young Adults. It also funds a Clinical Nurse Specialist at the hospital who provides the best possible clinical care and plays a vital role in shaping the care of young people with cancer. She offers one to one support for young people and their families, and works with the patient’s local clinical team to address their specific needs, both in hospital and at home.

Alison Upton, Regional Fundraising Manager at Teenage Cancer Trust says “We are incredibly grateful to Matford Land Rover for taking on this challenge.  We rely upon the support of individuals and companies to continue to provide our vital services and would urge other organisations in Exeter to challenge themselves and raise money to support more young people.”
