Exeter law firm expands services with collaboration

Exeter based Solicitors Title have today announced a collaboration with Harris Law South West which will bring a significant expansion of services offered to local businesses. 

Solicitors Title LLP already has offices in Exeter and Yeovil, covering areas such as online data management, franchising, licensing, retail and manufacturing, commercial property and leases, litigation, wills, probate and intellectual property.

Electric car charge points to be installed in East Devon car parks

A two-year £1.3m joint project to install at least 25 electric vehicle charge points for public use in car parks across Devon begins in October 2019

Once complete the Devon Low-carbon Energy & Transport Technology Innovator (DELETTI) programme will prevent more than 300 tonnes of carbon from entering the atmosphere every year.

The project follows Devon County Council securing a grant of £817,712 from the European Regional Development Fund.

Devon’s talented food and drink scene was alive at Monday night’s vibrant annual Food Drink Devon Awards.  The county’s finest food and drink producers, hospitality and catering businesses and speciality retailers celebrated in style at the esteemed Awards’ ceremony, held at the magnificent 19th century Victorian hotel, The Imperial in Torquay.  The ceremony was hosted, for the first time, by Devon food and drink champion BBC Radio Devon’s, Kerry White.

Law firm's "outstanding reputation" praised in new edition of independent guide

One of Devon's leading law firms has received top ranking in the latest edition of an independent guide to the legal profession.

Exeter-based Stephens Scown LLP is ranked in seventeen sections of Chambers & Partners' UK 2020 guide, with four teams receiving band 1 recognition. Eight of the firm's lawyers received band 1 ranking, and in total 25 lawyers are ranked.

Chambers UK is an independent guide to the legal profession and its rankings are based on feedback from clients and other professionals.

An apprentice at Taylor Wimpey Exeter has won a Pearson BTEC Construction Student of the Year award, thanks to his top results on the course and his work as a Technical Co-ordinator. 

Dan Reynolds, 26, started his career with Taylor Wimpey as an NVQ Level 3 Construction apprentice while studying at Exeter College. After working hard to gain his qualification in Construction and the Built Environment, Dan is now using his skills as a Technical Co-ordinator at the Taylor Wimpey Exeter regional office.

InExeter 2020-2025 ballot opens

The ballot for renewal of the city business improvement district, InExeter, opens today, with businesses in the area being asked to cast their vote for a second term.

InExeter launched the organisation’s 2020-2025 business plan in September setting out a proposed programme of delivery for the next five-year term. This includes investment in an increased programme of commissioned events, public art and exhibitions, further improvements to the city’s streetscapes and support for programmes such as Exeter Homeless Partnership.

Ambitious initiative takes new approach to tackle homelessness in Exeter

People who have been homeless will be at the heart of a new collaborative initiative to tackle the problems of homelessness in Exeter.

Public sector organisations, businesses, charities, residents and people with experience of homelessness will be brought together to form the Exeter Homeless Partnership and will develop a city-wide response to address the issue.

The new three-year project, which has been funded by Comic Relief, and will be managed by CoLab (Exeter’s wellbeing and innovation hub), has been launched today (10 October) to mark World Homelessness Day.

That is the view of climate change researchers who say the region is now home to more expertise in this field than anywhere on the planet.

The GW4 Alliance of top universities – Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter – has pledged to work with partners to explore transformative solutions.

Devon County Council aims to be carbon neutral by 2030

Ambitious targets for Devon County Council to be carbon neutral by 2030 have been agreed by the authority’s Cabinet today (Wednesday 9 October).

Councillors agreed to revise the authority’s energy and carbon strategy in response to the climate emergency.

The County Council’s carbon footprint has already fallen by almost 40% since 2012/13 – and it is likely to reach the authority’s original target of a 50% reduction next year, nine years earlier than planned.

Devon cider maker triples its tipples

An eighth-generation cider brewer whose handcrafted beverages are stocked by Wetherspoons has tripledproduction capacity and expects to boost sales by 20 per cent this year – all after securing a £50,000 hire purchase facility from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking.

Family-run business, Hunt’s Cider, is based in Totnes and uses locally-grown Devon apples to create its award-winning traditional and flavoured ciders, which are supplied to household names including The Co-operative Group, Wetherspoon and the National Trust.
