Devon has smashed the record for the number of new businesses launched in the area in a single year, according to new research. Eight young carers were given a free ride at the award-winning Virtual Jet Centre to give them a boost and at the same time give them a break from their responsibilities at home.

The young adults have all been taking time out of their own lives to care for others.

Staff at the state-of-the-art Virtual Jet Centre showed them how to land aircraft, talked them through cabin safety and gave them a chance to land their own 737 in the flight simulator.

Only two of the children in the group, who are all from the Torbay area, had ever been in a real aeroplane.
