SW businesses raise £900 for FORCE Cancer Charity at Exeter Padel Tournament

Business from across the South West came together at City Padel Exeter to raise £900 for FORCE Cancer Chairty as part of a charity padel tournament hosted by Konker .

The event saw 12 local businesses compete in a friendly tournament, combining sport, networking and fundraising in support of Devon based cancer charity. The day aimed to create a relaxed and social alternative to traditional business events, while raising money for a cause with strong local impact.

Businesses from Exeter are exhibiting and sending delegates to the Business Showcase South West 2015.

The event, which organisers hope will attract 3,000 delegates, is held at Colston Hall in Bristol on May 14 and 15.

Business Showcase South West 2015 is the biggest event of its kind in the region, and celebrates the best in innovation, creativity and enterprise. Last year’s event proved to be one of the biggest business events of the year, with 1,719 tickets ordered and a sell-out exhibition.

Devon business boom as record number of entrepreneurs start up

Devon has smashed the record for the number of new businesses launched in the area in a single year, according to new research. Statistics, compiled by www.informdirect.co.uk , have revealed that there were 5,501 companies formed in 2014, up from a previous best of 5,280. This brings the total number of businesses operating in the region to a high of 42,661. There are now 4.4% more active companies than there were a year ago and 28% more than there were five years ago. Dove Tree House in Exeter, Devon has won an award for being a top recommended care home in the South West.

The home came 9th out of 2,318 homes in the South west area. The top twenty South West homes received an award from the leading guide to care homes carehome.co.uk

The award was based on the home’s recommendations from their residents, plus friends and relatives of residents.

Young carers flying high

Eight young carers were given a free ride at the award-winning Virtual Jet Centre to give them a boost and at the same time give them a break from their responsibilities at home.

The young adults have all been taking time out of their own lives to care for others.

Staff at the state-of-the-art Virtual Jet Centre showed them how to land aircraft, talked them through cabin safety and gave them a chance to land their own 737 in the flight simulator.

Glenn Cosby, a contestant in the 2013 series of BBC TV’s Great British Bake Off, is the guest speaker at the first of Exeter Racecourse’s series of ‘Business Breakfast’ networking events, which takes place on Friday, April 17.
