Exeter announces its bid to become the UK’s City of Culture in 2029 

Exeter City Council has today announced it will be submitting an expression of interest (EOI) for the prestigious UK City of Culture title. 

The City of Culture bid follows the culmination of five months extensive engagement and consultation with artists, creatives, cultural organisations and residents to shape the council’s commissioned new five-year Cultural Strategy for Exeter.

Everys Solicitors has agreed a deal to acquire the legal practice of an eminent Iranian law firm with offices in Shiraz and Tehran.

Everys, headquartered in Exeter, will now open a branch office in Tehran headed up by first ranking Iranian qualified lawyer Saeid Salari.

The Exeter office of leading property consultancy JLL has been instructed to sell the Harrabeer Country House Hotel, Yelverton, an established business on the southern edge of Dartmoor National Park.

Exeter Chiefs have handed Championship side Cornish Pirates a pre-season boost by agreeing to allow six of their squad to join them on dual registered terms this season.

Exeter's Royal Albert Memorial Museum has been shortlisted for the Telegraph Family Friendly Museum Award

RAMM is one of only six museums to be shortlisted for this year's award – the biggest museum award in Britain.

Free flood warnings for EE customers

EE customers registered in flood risk areas in Devon and Cornwall will receive messages from the Environment Agency’s Floodline Warnings Direct service, giving people valuable time to prepare.

The scheme is the first of its kind in England and follows a successful pilot in Staffordshire in March this year.

South Devon Link Road officially named

Since the scheme was first announced in 2012 the construction of the A380 has been known as the South Devon Link Road project.

Now the new name of the A380 has been selected at a special panel meeting.

The official name for the road will be the South Devon Highway.

Devon County Council and Torbay Council, along with Galliford Try – the contractors responsible for constructing the road, launched the competition earlier this year asking the community to suggest ideas.
