CDS hits 200,000 broadband milestone

More than 200,000 businesses and households are now able to connect to fibre broadband thanks to the Connecting Devon and Somerset programme – around 185,000 of these are achieving superfast speeds.

The latest communities to ‘go live’ with superfast broadband in Devon include Cheriton Fitzpaine, Copplestone, Harbertonford and Sutton Cross. Fibre broadband has also been further expanded in exchange areas across the county.

SW sees slowest rise in output in 2.5 years

The South West private sector grew at the slowest rate in nearly two-and-a-half years in September, according to the latest PMI® survey data, mirroring the trend shown across the UK as a whole.

This mainly reflected the first decline in new business since March 2013. Employment continued to rise, but at the slowest rate seen across the UK. The latest survey also signalled a decline in input prices for the first time since December 2008.

SW bill payers missing out on £180m

New data reveals there is a staggering £180 million worth of savings available to households in the South West if they simply switch their energy supplier.

As colder weather sets in, the Government revealed new figures estimating that 900,000 households in the South West still stand to save £200 or more by switching their gas and electricity supplier.

Soak up the atmosphere of the Rugby World Cup tournament at the Exeter Fanzone, which is open again this weekend (10 and 11 October).

As well as the live match screenings - including Italy v Romania from Sandy Park on Sunday - there will plenty more going on to entertain the whole family.

Devon-based pasty and pie maker, Chunk, is celebrating after winning six awards from Food & Drink Devon this week, bringing the company’s awards total to an impressive 66.

Its Chicken and Chorizo pasty scooped the coveted platinum award, as well as five of Chunk’s other products winning gold.
