Devon-based pasty and pie maker, Chunk, is celebrating after winning six awards from Food & Drink Devon this week, bringing the company’s awards total to an impressive 66.

Its Chicken and Chorizo pasty scooped the coveted platinum award, as well as five of Chunk’s other products winning gold.

The Chunk team has earned a flurry of honours over the summer, both in regional and national awards, and the new accolades have secure its title as the most coveted pie and pasty operation in the country.

Co-owner, Simon Bryon-Edmonds, says: “We really value the results of the Food & Drink Devon Awards, as the judging panel mystery shops the products straight off the shelves and so it really is a true reflection on our product range. To have won awards for six of our pies and pasties proves that we are consistently producing top quality products.”

The company employs 30 people at its factory in Ottery St Mary and produces approximately 30,000 pies and pasties a week. They stock hundreds of outlets across the UK, from Wimbledon, Waitrose and Harrods, to smaller local stores, Sandy Park and even the Donkey Sanctuary in .

With a background in catering, Simon had a real desire to create a range of products that would challenge the stereotype of the unhealthy, stodgy pie. He explains: “We offer consumers top quality, tasty gourmet products, without being pretentious. Our rustic gourmet pies and pasties are jam packed with locally sourced goodness and are great hearty nosh. Our broad customer base shows how popular pies and pasties are when made properly.”

The company’s forward-thinking attitude seems to have paid dividends with their continued award successes. Co-owner, Suzi Bryon-Edmonds, exclaims: “We are really passionate about what we do and hope that our enthusiasm is evident in the items we produce. We have just released our Christmas menu, which is brimming with festive cheer and plenty of great seasonal ingredients, and we hope these are as much of a success as our core range.”
