Agencies raise awareness of Mental Capacity Act

Care agencies are raising awareness of the Mental Capacity Act, following concerns highlighted by a House of Lords select committee that too few people are aware of it or understand it.

The concern, held too by professionals in Devon, is that the Act, which provides protection to people who are unable to make their own decisions, isn’t recognised widely enough by the public or indeed by many in the care profession.

Devon and Torbay’s Safeguarding Adults Boards are planning a week of activity commencing Monday 8 February, to tell people about the Act.

Council vote goes in Grecians' favour

Exeter City have received planning permission for a new grandstand at St James Park following an 8-2 vote in favour at Exeter City Council last night.

The new stand is to replace the existing Stagecoach Stand.

Club chairman Julian Tagg tweeted: "Result... @OfficialECFC get planning approval for new grandstand. 8-2!!!" following the conclusion of the vote.

Police are advising motorists to take extra care on Devon's roads as Storm Imogen passes through the region.

Gusts of up to 80mph have brought down numerous trees, causing widespread travel disruption. Motorists are asked to drive carefully, allow extra time for their journeys and avoid all flooded areas.

Nuffield Health Exeter staff raise £580 for FORCE

Staff at Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital have raised over £580 for FORCE Cancer Charity during 2015. Staff held raffles, fancy dress and fun days to fundraise this exceptional amount.

The charity was selected as Charity of the Year for a number of reasons, primarily the support they provide for the people of Exeter and surrounding areas who are affected by cancer. FORCE provides all their services via funds generated themselves with no Government funding.

Nuffield Health are also a not-for-profit organisation.
