Exeter-based employment lawyer joins Westbank Community Health and Care’s Board of Trustees

The Devon-wide health and wellbeing charity, Westbank Community Health and Care, is delighted to welcome lawyer Henry Cross as its newest Trustee. Henry is a Senior Associate at Michelmores, specialising in employment law.

A father-of-two from Exeter, Henry already had a broad awareness of the charity when he met Westbank’s Head of Carers Services, Andy Hood, at a networking event a few years ago. 29 million days of work lost each year to hay fever

Severe hay fever costs the UK 29 million days of work each year, according to a new survey from the Met Office.

The research found that more than one in ten (11%) UK adults of working age suffer from hay fever to the extent that it stop them going into work, causing them to miss an average of 8.4 working days per year.

Man badly hurt in suspected hit and run

A man has been left with serious injures following a suspected hit and run in Bradninch.

Police were called to reports of an injured man in the middle of West End Road just after 11.30pm on Saturday (11 June).

The 53-year-old local man was found in the road with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle

The type of vehicle involved remains unknown.

The collision is believed to have occurred in the hours of darkness and weather and road conditions were good although they deteriorated during time at the scene.

Exeter Chiefs duo Jack Nowell and Luke Cowan-Dickie both came off the bench as England beat the Wallabies for only the fourth time in Australia as they triumphed 39-28 in a mighty battle in the first Test in Brisbane.

The win looked unlikely when they fell 10-0 behind early on as Michael Hooper and Israel Folau scored for the hosts, but Eddie Jones’ side hit back through the boot of Owen Farrell and tries from Jonathan Joseph and Marland Yarde.

Exeter cycle network approved

The principle of an integrated Exeter cycle network, linking up schools, new developments, the university, the Exeter and East Devon Growth point, and the city centre has been approved.

Devon County Council’s cabinet has given the greenlight to progressing plans for a series of high quality, multi-use routes around the city for use by residents, commuters, students and visitors.

Priority will be given to two multi-use trails - both linking Redhayes Bridge, which crosses the M5 near Junction 29, to the city centre, but serving different purposes.

Planned road closure postponed

A planned road closure which was due to take place on the A361 between Bolham roundabout and Station Road, South Molton, between 6am and 4pm from Monday 13 June to Wednesday 15 June for resurfacing work, has been postponed.

Due to poor weather conditions forecast for next week the work cannot take place. Instead the closure has been re-scheduled to take place from Tuesday 21 June to Thursday 23 June between 6am and 4pm.
