UK and Ireland law firm, Browne Jacobson is backing a national effort to mobilise millions of volunteers while strengthening its employee volunteering offer, as a Founder Member of GoVo , the digital volunteering platform developed by Royal Voluntary Service.

Utility road reinstatements to be examined by Scrutiny Committee

The reinstatement of Devon’s roads by utility companies will be examined by Devon County Council’s Place Scrutiny Committee next month (November).

The latest findings from the County Council’s annual coring programme, which tests work by utility companies, has revealed that standards have slipped over the past year.

Around 300 core samples were randomly taken from utility reinstatements across the county from July 2015 to July 2016. This programme examined samples from 146 roads and 155 footways, all of which had complied with visual inspections.

Exeter firm raises the roof for African children's charity

An Exeter business has donated funds for essential building work at Child Hope Ministries, an orphanage in Uganda, as it helps put a roof over the heads of the charity’s growing number of vulnerable children.

Exeter-based waste management business Devon Contract Waste connected with the charity three years ago through a mutual friend who volunteered at the orphanage. ‘Class of 2016’ congratulated on 100 per cent exam pass rate

Nineteen staff from five offices of chartered accountants PKF Francis Clark, including Exeter, celebrated their exam successes at a special reception.

The ‘Class of 2016’ achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in their taxation and accountancy exams.

Managing Partner Andrew Richards described the results as “outstanding”, adding: “They have all worked so hard for these qualifications and I, and the rest of the firm, could not be prouder.”

Heroin, crack and cash seized in Exeter

Three men have been arrested and drugs and cash seized following a warrant being executed at an address in Exeter.

On Monday the 10th of October, officers from the neighbourhood policing team and drug enforcement officers executed a misuse of drugs act warrant at an address in Longbrooke Terrace, Exeter.

Three men aged 21, 19, and 18, all from London were arrested.

Samsung scraps Galaxy Note 7. Refunds available

Samsung today confirmed that it is permanently stopping production of the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone.

The firm said it had made the decision to stop production for the sake of consumer safety after it was involved in dozens of fires and explosions worldwide.

It said in a statement: “Putting consumer safety as the top priority, we have reached a final decision to halt production of Galaxy Note 7s.” A spokesperson confirmed that the suspension was “permanent”.

Marine businesses, fishermen and sailors are to get a new voice about what happens on the Exe Estuary.

Commercial fishermen, ferry operators, mooring authority representatives, pleasure boaters and boat yard owners have come together to form a new watchdog, the Exeter Port Users Group.
