Exeter announces its bid to become the UK’s City of Culture in 2029 

Exeter City Council has today announced it will be submitting an expression of interest (EOI) for the prestigious UK City of Culture title. 

The City of Culture bid follows the culmination of five months extensive engagement and consultation with artists, creatives, cultural organisations and residents to shape the council’s commissioned new five-year Cultural Strategy for Exeter.

South West-based Longhouse Group has expanded its portfolio of companies with the acquisition of the region’s leading independent roofing supplies merchant, Roofing Supplies (SW) Limited (RSL). Pothole funding welcomed but Council warns it only “scratches the surface”

Devon County Council has given a cautious welcome to a Government funding announcement (on Monday 28 November) for road repairs saying that it still only “scratches the surface”.

The Department for Transport has announced a £70 million allocation from the Pothole Action Fund in 2017/18. This is part of the £250 million over five years which the Government announced for its Pothole Action Fund last year.

Devon will receive £3.192 million in the next financial year, which the DfT calculates is enough to repair 60,200 potholes.

In support of National Counter Terrorism Awareness Week, which will run from Monday the 28th of November to Sunday 4 December, Devon and Cornwall, and Dorset Police will be taking part in a week of action which will include providing advice on how to keep safe, and encouraging people to report any concerns.

CCTV appeal following pub burglary

Police are appealing for information following a burglary at The Galleon Inn, The Strand, Starcross.

The burglary occurred in the early hours of Wednesday 5 November 2016, between 3am and 3.40am.

Entry was gained by the rear door and after a tidy search of the property, £260 cash was taken from a till along with a distinct old cigar pot containing £200 lottery syndicate money and a red book.

A safe which was bolted to the ground was also taken and contained £2,500.

Gritters out in force as temperatures plummet
