A new healthy-lifestyle service commissioned by Devon County Council aims to help the increasing number of adults at risk of developing long-term health conditions take small steps toward a healthier lifestyle.

Devon Wildlife Trust nominated for top BBC Countryfile award

Local conservation charity Devon Wildlife Trust could be in line for a prestigious honour for its work with beavers.

The Trust has been nominated jointly with a similar project in Scotland in the ‘Wildlife Success of the Year’ category of the BBC Countryfile Magazine Awards 2017.

The nomination is recognition of the work being done by Devon Wildlife Trust with the beavers which are living on the River Otter in East Devon. The beavers are thought to be the first wild population in England for 400 years.

Appeal after racially aggravated incident in Exeter

Police are appealing for witnesses following a racially aggravated incident towards a member of staff at a takeaway in Exeter.

The incident took place on the 21st of December between 7-7:20pm at the KFC on Sidwell Street. It is alleged that a customer was racially abusive to a female member of staff.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of using racially aggravating language that could cause alarm or distress, and has been bailed until the 24th of January pending further enquiries.

Bricks Finance issues new investor’s Bond

Exeter and East Devon based Bricks Finance has announced that the business has now been authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

The FCA is the UK’s financial regulatory body overseeing the conduct of financial firms that provide services to consumers and it regulates all conduct related to the marketing of financial products.

Bricks Finance, which made its first loan in May 2015, currently has a loan book of over £5 million and has made loan offers over its first two years of £14 million.

Exeter Central Library could save £70,000 in energy costs over the next 20 years, thanks to its roof-top solar panels.

The (29kW) solar (photovoltaic) array is just one of several community-owned sustainable energy projects that have been completed following help from Devon County Council (DCC).

Residents and interested parties are invited to find out more about the construction of a scheme aimed at reducing the risk of flooding to over 2,900 properties around the River Exe.
