In the first employment survey to be published since the General Election, employers in the South West are becoming more cautious about hiring, according to ManpowerGroup, the world’s workforce experts. With an Outlook of +1%, confidence has taken a dip since last quarter’s +4% figure. The ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey is based on responses from 2,109 UK employers. Two Exeter-based building projects have won at the 2017 Michelmores Property Awards, which celebrate outstanding property and construction projects in Devon, Bristol, Somerset, Dorset and Cornwall, across ten categories.

Police are investigating a racially aggravated public order offence where a customer became abusive towards staff at an Exeter delicatessen

Officers were called to the incident at Chandos Deli in Princesshay on Saturday[17 June] between 12.30pm and 1pm.

A 55-year-old man from Exeter was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Second round of Exeter’s rare books up for adoption

Exeter Library’s Adopt a Book initiative has launched a second series of ancient books for adoption, following the return of the first two fully restored items to Exeter’s Special Collections Archives.

The Adopt a Book initiative was launched in December 2016 by Exeter Library senior supervisor Joanne Cousins. Now, six months on, the scheme has raised more than £3,000 and seven out of the 10 original books have been adopted in full, meaning that work on the restoration of these items can be completed to keep them safe for future generations to enjoy.

Community Transport Award winners honoured for dedication

Awards have been presented to 10 proud Community Transport volunteers and staff members from across the county at a special ceremony.

Devon County Council marked the 18th anniversary of its annual Community Transport Awards at County Hall last Thursday night (15 June).

Public Health leaders in Devon are supporting a national campaign urging men who spend a lot of time outdoors to protect themselves against the sun, to reduce the risk of skin cancer.
