Girlings Retirement Rentals, the UK’s market leader in retirement rentals, is hosting an open day at Homecourt House in Exeter, Devon on Wednesday 5 July to welcome over 55s interested in renting one of three one-bedroom apartments, in one of the most desirable retirement destinations in the UK.

Exeter has been named one of the top 20 places to live in the UK. This vibrant city with its stunning Cathedral, great restaurants and fast connections to London is also surrounded by beautiful countryside and close to seaside resorts on East Devon’s World Heritage Listed coastline.

Doors will open at Homecourt House, located in central Exeter, close to the Cathedral, from 11am until 2pm.

Representatives from Girlings will provide a tour of the development, the apartments and the many facilities including the garden, the large residents’ sitting room and guest rooms.

Visitors will also have the chance to learn more about renting in retirement on assured (lifetime) tenancies and to meet the resident house manager.

There are three apartments currently available to let - a one-bedroom apartment on an assured shorthold tenancy available at £650 per calendar month (pcm) and two one-bedroom apartments on assured (lifetime) tenancies for £725 pcm and £750 pcm.

Homecourt House has a range of facilities for residents. There is a house manager on site to deal with any queries, a 24 hour emergency call system in each apartment and a communal lounge and gardens. There are also no additional extra costs, other than council tax and living expenses, as the services of the development and property maintenance fees are included in the monthly rent.

Peter Girling, Chairman of Girlings Retirement Rentals comments: “Renting in retirement is becoming increasingly common as people want to downsize when they get older and don’t want the worry of maintaining a property. There are also financial benefits as people can use capital from selling their home to help fund their retirement.

“Exeter and the South West of England in general, always appeals to retirees because of its a warm and sunnier climate, compared with more northern regions.  Exeter is a lively city which is well connected by road and rail, plus it has an international airport.

“We are looking forward to welcoming prospective residents at our open day, showing them a selection of good quality one bedroom apartments and discussing the benefits of living in a retirement community and renting on an assured tenancy, which provides the option to remain living in their chosen property for life if they  wish.”

One happy Homecourt House resident is Annette Setterfield, 83, who has rented a one bedroom first floor apartment in the development for five years.

She says: “The big attraction of living here was that the apartment had really big windows with lovely views. I can see my church from the window which is really nice. I feel very settled and happy and I was able to bring my cat Sweep, who loves sitting on the window ledge looking out.”

Annette appreciates the fact she is on an assured tenancy, which means she can stay in the property for as long as she wants. She also enjoys the social side of living at Homecourt House and often spends time in the communal lounge and gardens with other residents.

Annette adds, “I really like living here as the flat is easy to look after and I’m very close to the shops and my church, which is great. I especially enjoy the lovely views and the fact the flat is not overlooked.”

If like Annette you want to rent in retirement, come along to see the range of properties available at Homecourt House, Bartholomew Street West, Exeter EX4 3AD.
