EDDC launches StartSmart: a new programme to support East Devon startups and entrepreneurs

East Devon District Council (EDDC) is launching StartSmart , a new business support programme designed to help aspiring entrepreneurs and startup businesses across East Devon build strong, sustainable foundations from day one.

The programme will officially launch with a free startup event on Tuesday 17 March, 10am–2pm, at the East Devon Business Centre, Honiton (EX14 1SF). The event is aimed at anyone looking to start a business in East Devon, as well as those who have launched a business within the last three years.

A training course which helps people support colleagues who may be experiencing stress is being run at Plymouth Science Park.

Devon and Cornwall Counselling Hub holds a number of fully accredited courses and its staff believe everyone can benefit from undertaking a basic level of training.

The team provide students with a skillset which can really help transform lives - and even prevent suicide.

Sign up now to EDDC's new green waste collection service

East Devon residents can now sign up online to a new fortnightly green waste collection service which is being introduced by the district council from Monday May 14.

Our kerbside collection will make it so much easier for East Devon’s green fingered residents to dispose of their green waste, which will be composted in East Devon and used by local farms.

Over the next few days, the district’s 69,000 households will each receive a bin hanger giving more details of the new service which will cost £48 a year, with an introductory offer of a free 240ltr green bin.

Berry Recruitment Group announces increase in turnover of £3m

Berry Recruitment Group (BRG) has announced a turnover of £65m in 2017 – up £3m on the previous year. The national recruiter also recorded an increased gross profit of a touch under £13m, and earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) of £1.75m. CDS expands broadband network to thousands more homes and businesses

Nearly 300,000 homes and businesses in rural areas now have access to superfast broadband thanks to Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS).

New analysis shows the total number of homes and businesses with access to CDS-provided superfast has risen to 298,900 and a further 38,000 can access improved broadband speeds.

In addition, CDS-funded construction has started to provide a further 68,100 rural homes and businesses across the region with access to superfast networks by 2020. In many cases the new networks will be capable of ultrafast speeds. (See Notes)
