Devon County Council has agreed its support for the development of the Plymouth and South Devon Freeport sites in the county.

The Freeport has the potential to unlock £314 million of inward investment and create more than 3,500 jobs by building on the area’s global reputation for marine innovation and advanced engineering.

New Exeter builders merchant to bring community and charity boost

One of the UK’s leading builders merchants will bring a £3,000 boost for charities and community groups when it opens a new branch in Exeter later this month.

Selco Builders Warehouse will open the doors to its 73rd UK branch on Filmer Way in Marsh Barton on Tuesday, April 26.

Latest figures show that Devon is home to more than 60,000 companies for the very first time – highlighting its popularity as a place to do business.

There are now 60,428 businesses registered in the county according to company secretarial software specialists Inform Direct, based on statistics from Companies House and the Office for National Statistics.

The milestone announcement follows Devon enjoying a record year for company formations during 2021, when it recorded 6,825 new businesses.

Independent charity Devon Communities Together (DCT) has launched a new wellbeing programme, Wellbeing Works, to support people and businesses in Devon to prioritise their wellbeing and resilience as we continue to recover from the pandemic.

People can access free 1-2-1 wellbeing check-ins with trained volunteers or join one of a series of online workshops designed to share tools and techniques for better wellbeing. The Heart of the South West Trading Standards Service is reminding all keepers of poultry that they are legally required to take measures to reduce the risk of bird flu spreading .

On Wednesday (April 6) avian influenza (H5N1) was confirmed in a bird at a premises near Newton St Cyres, Mid Devon, and another case is suspected at a premises near Tedburn St Mary, Teignbridge.
