Call for Devon firms to support employees over 50 with alcohol choices

Drink Wise, Age Well Devon is calling on the county’s businesses to make sure they are supporting their older employees with alcohol choices.

Over the past 30 years, the employment rate for people aged 50-64 has grown from 55.4% to 70.7%, and the number of over 65s in work has also doubled from 4.9% to 10.7%.

Drink Wise, Age Well is sending out an Employer’s Toolkit to offer guidance on how to raise awareness within a workforce and offering training courses.

It has been six months since the fire on Cathedral Green.

To mark the occasion Exeter City Council has released some of the CCTV footage from the night which has never been seen before.

A spokesman said: "We would again like to thank Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service and Devon & Cornwall Police for the amazing job they did on the night. We would also like to thank the public in Exeter for their continued support of the city centre. Please feel free to share our short film."

Bridge Road in Exeter closed next weekend

The next weekend closure of Bridge Road is planned to take place from 10pm on Friday 5 May until 5am on Monday 8 May for the continuing installation of cantilever beams and spans for the Countess Wear pedestrian and cycle bridge.

The diversion route will be signed via Topsham Road, Alphington Road, Marsh Barton and the A379. Details of the diversion route are available here .

Exeter City Futures is facilitating a collaboration between City Science and Lightfoot to offer free Lightfoot devices to drivers in Exeter. Ahead of the new museum’s highly anticipated launch this summer, Aerospace Bristol [www.aerospacebristol.org] has taken the wraps off its star attraction: Concorde 216, the last of the supersonic passenger jets to be built and the last to fly.

Concorde had been wrapped in protective film while works took place around the aircraft and the end wall of her new purpose-built hangar was built. The full council meeting of Exeter City Council on 25th April passed a motion opposing central government education funding cuts and calling for revision of the proposed funding formula which otherwise would together result in an average cut of £420 per annum for Exeter students.

Overnight lane closures on Bridge Road in Exeter

An overnight lane closure and temporary traffic signals will be in place on Bridge Road in Exeter tonight (Wednesday 26 April) and tomorrow evening (Thursday 27 April).

On both evenings, the signals will be in use from 8.30pm and up to 5.30am the following morning. The lane closure is needed to enable safe working during the installation of sockets for new traffic signals north of the Bascule Bridge, which will eventually replace the existing pedestrian crossing at the canal.
