SW economy loses momentum in June

The South West economy lost momentum in June as business activity growth slowed, according to the latest Lloyds Bank UK Regional PMI® survey.

The South West PMI fell to 52.6 in June, from 53.8 in May. A reading greater than 50.0 signifies growth in business activity.

The latest reading signalled the slowest rise in activity since the month after the EU referendum. The PMI reading was also below the UK average (53.8).

Despite this, firms continued to create jobs, marking 12 months of continuous employment growth in the region.

Local Kia dealership, Marsh Kia, is proud to announce its support of Torbay and South Devon NHS Trust for the next three years.

The sponsorship supports the trust’s transport division in raising funds for a stair lifter. The stair lifters provide an easy and safe method of moving patients from their accommodation to the ambulances. Marsh Kia will make a donation every quarter to fund the costs of a stair lifter, which equates to around £6,000.

Ottery shoppers help Devon’s beavers

East Devon shoppers have been doing their bit for the River Otter beavers through a local store’s fundraising scheme.

Staff at Roberts, Ottery St Mary’s venerable hardware and homeware shop, set up a ‘book and DVD’ stall in the store, with each item available for a £1 donation. And last month they reached the milestone of £1000 raised for the River Otter Beaver Trial, the Devon Wildlife Trust-led project that is monitoring the beaver population and its effects for the next five years.

East Devon District Council is proposing to introduce public pay and display parking in the Manor Pavilion car park, next to the Manor Pavilion Theatre and Arts Centre in Sidmouth. This 21 space car park has historically been designated as a private car park for people visiting the theatre and arts centre. The council is inviting everyone to have their say on these proposals before 5pm on Friday 28 July 2017.
