Pitch perfect: Football meets rugby in Exeter’s Strive ‘25 takeover

Exeter City Community Trust, the charitable arm of Exeter City Football Club, is stepping into a new sport as it joins a major national initiative to grow women’s rugby in the city ahead of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025.

The organisation, which is more used to the beautiful game than the oval ball, is joining with Exeter Chiefs and Exeter City Council as the delivery partner for the Strive ‘25 Rugby Challenge, a national programme aimed at engaging 25,000 women and girls in rugby across host cities. Making art for charity

Exeter Junior School pupils are proud to contribute to Young Devon Art and raise money for charity in the process.

Pupils at the independent co-education school created pictures based on the theme 'What makes me happy' for the Young Devon Art Exhibition in aid of Cancer Research as part of the school's Art Club. They each donated £2 for the cancer charity alongside their artwork.

Nine members of Exeter Junior School's Art Club are celebrating the selection of their artwork to go on show at The Spanish Barn, Torre Abbey in Torquay throughout the weekend 3 - 4 March.

The Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment Scheme is offering free football kit and equipment to primary schools in an effort to inspire children to learn, engage and be active.

The programme is a national curriculum-linked education initiative that uses the appeal of the Premier League and professional football clubs, to help teachers inspire girls and boys aged 5-11 in the classroom, the playground and on the sports field.

Women and girls we have a date for your diaries! Saturday 7th July sees the return of the annual Hospiscare Twilight Walk . This year’s theme is “Pink Fizz”, so dig out all things pink to wear and there will be a glass of 'fizz' waiting for you on your return. The walk is once again kindly sponsored by Western Power Distribution.

QualitySolicitors Dunn & Baker, Property Executive, Clare Handley, is raising funds for Breast Cancer Care by completing the Inca Trail Trek to Machu Picchu in April. She will then travel to the Amazon Rainforest to explore the trails and waterways on foot and by boat.

Staff at Mercedes-Benz of Exeter joined the fight against heart disease by holding a Cake Sale for their customers on Valentine’s day. The local community came out in force to show their support of the nation’s heart charity with the team raising over £120 throughout the day.

WiFi SPARK is pleased to announce that it has raised a whopping £2,000 on behalf of Rowcroft Hospice in Torquay.

The Exeter based WiFi and analytics provider organised a range of activities to raise as much money as possible for the charity, including: a cake sale, raffles, the sleepwalk 10-mile challenge, fancy dress days where members of the team dressed up for Halloween and Christmas and a tuck shop. Buckfast Abbey is giving thanks for the thousandth anniversary of its foundation through the setting up of the Millennium Fund to support Devon hospice charities. All proceeds from the Millennium events will go towards the fund, which will then be split between Rowcroft Hospice, Hospiscare, North Devon Hospice, Children’s Hospice South West and St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth.

A classic boost for cancer support in Devon

The 2017 Classics Galore! concert - Exeter’s very own night at the proms - raised a record sum of £21,000 for FORCE Cancer Charity.

To celebrate, sponsors, performers, organisers and representatives from the charity gathered at the FORCE Support and Information Centre for the cheque presentation.

Classics Galore! has been staged at the University of Exeter Great Hall every two years since 2007.

Profits from the tenth anniversary of this hugely popular musical extravaganza take the total raised for FORCE to nearly £90,000.
