Pitch perfect: Football meets rugby in Exeter’s Strive ‘25 takeover

Exeter City Community Trust, the charitable arm of Exeter City Football Club, is stepping into a new sport as it joins a major national initiative to grow women’s rugby in the city ahead of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025.

The organisation, which is more used to the beautiful game than the oval ball, is joining with Exeter Chiefs and Exeter City Council as the delivery partner for the Strive ‘25 Rugby Challenge, a national programme aimed at engaging 25,000 women and girls in rugby across host cities. Sense Deafblind charity receive £1,000 from local Freemasons

Exeter Racecourse will be highlighting the invaluable work of Devon Air Ambulance at its charity raceday on Sunday, November 24.

Racecourse general manager Jack Parkinson said: “Devon’s Air Ambulances are very much an essential part of the community we live in and we are delighted to support their vital work. We have supported the charity for a number of years, but this is the first time we have named our raceday after the charity. Throughout the last 12 months, Totnes Young Farmers with its 65 members have been busy raising a colossal £22,000 for two brilliant charities; Devon Air Ambulance and Cystic Fibrosis.

Browne Jacobson trainees smash fundraising target in ride, trek and sleep-out charity challenge

Twenty-six Browne Jacobson trainees have raised over £11k for the firm’s five charity partners after completing the last of three endurance testing events this weekend.

The final challenge saw 14 of the trainees forfeiting their home comforts by taking part in an Autumnal Sleep Out in the firm’s office gardens in Nottingham that tied in with National Homeless Awareness Week.

The group smashed their £7k target set out earlier in the year with all the proceeds being divided equally between all five partner charities.

Made and donated by the kind, and incredibly talented, folks at Ullacombe Farm Shop and Café near Bovey Tracey, this deliciously devilish brain cake is going to be auctioned off to raise money for local people with brain injuries.

The auction will take place on Headway Devon’s Facebook page on Wednesday 30th October, so that the lucky winner will have their terrifying treat in time for Halloween. Bidding will open at 10am and close at 3pm.

The Personal Support Unit, a charity dedicated to providing free, independent assistance to individuals facing court alone, will in future be known as Support Through Court, following an extensive rebrand.

The new name, coinciding with the charity’s 18th birthday, is designed to convey more effectively the service the charity offers, which is increasingly vital at a time of extensive cuts to legal aid.

Coffee morning helps local housebuilders raise funds for Macmillan

Cakes, coffee and a chat with the neighbours have helped local housebuilders Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The five-star housebuilders put the kettle on at the Minerva development in Exeter last week as part of The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, inviting residents, neighbours and staff to join in for a morning of socialising.

Now the company has totted up the total and the event raised £142.68 for the extremely worthwhile charity.

Darts Farm continues to raise funds for local charities

During the summer months Darts Farm is renowned for its vibrant yellow fields of pick-your-own sunflowers and it’s superb ‘Maize Maze’. The beautiful flowers have raised a total of £5,034 this year for Darts Farm chosen charity, Hospiscare and the ‘Maize Maze’; a maze that’s constructed entirely out of the maize crop grown in the Darts Farm field, has raised a total of £3,061 for local charity ELF (Exeter Leukaemia Fund).
