Exeter awaits era-defining tournament as new Women’s Rugby World Cup trophy unveiled and further tickets released

With just 100 days to go until Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 kicks off in Sunderland, World Rugby has today unveiled a bold new trophy – a symbol of the game’s unstoppable global rise – and announced the release of additional tickets for what promises to be a generational moment for the sport.

The trophy will embark on a trip to Exeter on 20 May at Exeter Cathedral, as part of a nationwide tour of England.

Sarah Massey, Managing Director of the Rugby World Cup 2025, and several rugby stars will be in attendance to showcase the new trophy.

Exeter City fell to their first defeat of the season as a Kieran Agard penalty saw MK Dons record a 1-0 victory.

The Grecians, backed by a large away following had their chances in both halves, but were reduced to 10 men when Dean Moxey was shown a second yellow card for handball in the box. Six men will be embarking on a 670-mile cycle trip across Europe next month, with the help of Exeter City FC, in memory of a friend and to raise much-needed funds and awareness for three charities.

The six cyclists – Steve Christie, Christian Webber, Mark Reece, Pete Wallington, Mark Holmes and Rich Cook – will peddle from Portsmouth to Munich on Wednesday, September 19. The date is the birthday of their good friend Jason Cloke who, due to a genetic illness called haemochromatosis, died at the age of 42 in 2010.

Residents, commuters and visitors to Barnstaple on Monday September 3 are advised to leave more time for their journey as the Tour of Britain returns to the town.

Starting in Cranbrook, East Devon, the race covers 174km (108miles) of Devon countryside before finishing in Barnstaple town centre - and large numbers of spectators are expected to visit on race day.

Exeter Chiefs chairman Tony Rowe OBE says it's testament to the 'fantastic backing' the club receive from its loyal supporters that season ticket sales have risen again ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
