Council vote goes in Grecians' favour

Exeter City have received planning permission for a new grandstand at St James Park following an 8-2 vote in favour at Exeter City Council last night.

The new stand is to replace the existing Stagecoach Stand.

Club chairman Julian Tagg tweeted: "Result... @OfficialECFC get planning approval for new grandstand. 8-2!!!" following the conclusion of the vote.

Councillor Keith Owen, who represents the St James Ward, told BBC Radio Devon: "It was a good meeting in that everyone had their say on the issues. I, and the majority of residents in St James, will be disappointed...

Exeter drug dealer jailed

A man has been jailed at Exeter Crown Court today (Monday 8th February) following a police operation into the supply of drugs into the South West.

Leon Butt, 43, from Topsham, Exeter has been sentenced to 9 years and 7 months in prison with the addition of a five year Serious Crime Prevention Order upon release.

Operation Citadel was a complex investigation that was conducted by local neighbourhood Policing teams and Zephyr, The South West Regional Organised Crime Unit.

Exeter Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity, has donated a ‘cuddle cot’ and two Moses baskets to the Maternity Unit at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital to enable bereaved parents to spend more time with their babies. The cuddle cot is a cold pad that can be wrapped around a baby that has been stillborn, allowing parents to stay with them for longer. Police are advising motorists to take extra care on Devon's roads as Storm Imogen passes through the region.

Gusts of up to 80mph have brought down numerous trees, causing widespread travel disruption. Motorists are asked to drive carefully, allow extra time for their journeys and avoid all flooded areas.

High winds have also brought down power lines, leaving thousands of homes, businesses and schools without electricity.

Red Earth Opera - Devon's own community opera company. Gluck's telling of the story of Iphigenia, daughter of Agamemnon on the island of the Scythians. Performed in English. Soloists include Laura Curry, Sebastian Charlesworth and Gavin Jarvis with the orchestra, chorus and dancers of Red Earth Opera.

The opera contains some glorious tunes - Gluck may be more famous for his opera "Orpheus", but this contains some even better music. Part of the Teignmouth Classical Music Festival.

Newton Abbot Racecourse plays host to a star studded array of pop’s best loved names from the 1980s this summer.
