A loud, colourful Rio themed parade will kick off the Devon School Games which are coming to Exeter for the first time in their four year history this Wednesday 29th June.

The Devon Summer School Games will take place across 3 sites: Exeter Arena will host the RIO themed opening ceremony with St Luke’s Science and Sports College hosting all the Inclusion Sports and the Exeter Saracens pitches providing the location for a variety of sporting competition.

Show of Hands, one of the leading acts in British folk, are to release a single and video to mark the centenary of the first day of WW1’s Battle of the Somme.

BBC award-winning singer songwriter Steve Knightley and multi-instrumentalist Phil Beer will offer one of Knightley’s finest songs, The Gamekeeper as a download single from July 1, tying in with a day-long tribute in their home city of Exeter to the 19240 Allied servicemen lost on the opening day of one of the worst battles in history.

ITEC, based in Exeter, Plymouth and Redruth, is now providing IT support for Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust (CAAT) following a rigorous tendering process. NHS promises improvements to 111 service

Patients in Dorset, Devon and Cornwall have been promised improved NHS 111 services by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust following a critical report.

The new commitment follows a warning notice and inspection report published today by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Since concerns with the quality and safety of its NHS 111 services were first raised earlier this year, the trust has been working with local commissioners and stakeholders to better manage patient safety risks. Wedding belles raise funds for Neonatal Unit

Ruth Fishleigh and her family have raised nearly £4,000 for the Neonatal Unit (NNU) at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital by holding a ‘Wedding Dress Ball’.

The sell-out event, which saw 130 guests attend dressed in their finest wedding attire, took place at the Exeter Golf and Country Club on 20th May. The charity dinner dance and auction provided an opportunity for women to give their wedding dresses another wearing and help raise some money for a cause close to Ruth’s heart.

Police investigating after death of 8-month-old baby

Devon and Cornwall police are investigating the death on an 8-month-old boy in Brownhills Road, Newton Abbot.

A spokesperson for Devon & Cornwall Police said: "Officers were called by the ambulance just after 10.30am this morning (15th June) informing us of the death.

"Police and scenes of crime officers have attended the house to undertake initial investigations and we are currently treating the death as unexplained.

"A 27-year-old man is in police custody in connection with this matter and awaits questioning."

Bus Station exhibition sees huge turnout

More than 1,100 people turned up for an exhibition to see detailed designs for Exeter's new bus station.

Staff and councillors at Exeter City Council said they were delighted with the public response.

The City Council is now in the detailed design phase of the project. The new, modern bus station will replace the tired and dated bus station in Paris Street and will be built alongside the new St Sidwell’s Point leisure complex.

Teens hospitalised after taking prescription drugs

On Friday 3 June 2016 a number of teenagers in Sidmouth took a prescription only drug called Alprazolam, which is manufactured as Xanax.

Five teenagers, aged 17 and 18, were seriously ill as a result and were treated in intensive care at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

Officers form CID and the local policing team in Sidmouth are investigating the matter and enquiries are continuing.

An 18-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of supplying the drugs and is currently on bail until 22 August pending further enquiries.
