StartUp Britain tour visits Exeter

Following a high-profile launch at Buckingham Palace as guests of the Duke of York, national enterprise campaign StartUp Britain will tomorrow (TUESDAY) arrive in Exeter as part of a summer bus tour providing inspiration and support to thousands of aspiring entrepreneurs.

As an indicator of local entrepreneurial drive, new figures released by StartUp Britain for the tour show 363 new businesses were formed in Exeter in the first six months of 2016. This compares with 738 new businesses registered in the city throughout 2015.

Stephens Scown advises on completion of South Crofty acquisition

Leading South West law firm Stephens Scown LLP has advised Canadian company Strongbow Exploration Inc on the completion of the acquisition, from administration, of the South Crofty tin mine in Cornwall. New women only marathon announced for Devon

A new women-only marathon has been announced for Devon in 2017 to mark the 50th anniversary of a famous incident which helped pave the way for women to be able to officially take part in marathons.

The Women Can marathon on 28 May 2017 is almost entirely off-road, taking in the breathtaking Otter and Sid Valleys and part of the South West Coast Path on the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site in East Devon.

Largely rural, the course also includes picturesque Devon villages and the towns of Sidmouth and Ottery St Mary.

Young people in Devon will be working with professional artists to explore new innovations in digital media. Daisi is celebrating its success in receiving an Arts Council England Grants for the Arts award for the project, Art Machina. With the £47,582 award, the research and development project will develop digital arts practice using innovative digital media. Devon's latest outdoor adventure centre, The Bear Trail, is celebrating its official Opening Day on Saturday 23rd July. The Bear Trail is an innovative and challenging outdoor adventure trail set over a 10 acre site in Wescott, near Cullompton, which features over 16 separate obstacles where children (and adults!) can run, jump and climb their way across zig-zag bridges, high nets and bear-infested mud pits.

Plymouth Science Park tenants are asking the west country business community to come forward with their experience of cyber fraud.

Devon and Cornwall Business Council, who recently relocated their HQ to Plymouth Science Park, will be holding a half-day conference to discuss the subject.

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service are delighted to announce that they have signed a partnership agreement with Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust to enable NHS Practitioners to refer patients for free home fire safety visits. The agreement came about after the formation of the multi-agency Bariatric and plus size working group which was looking at how the NHS and Fire Service could work together to reduce risk in this client group.
