The more the merrier! Volunteering at the Seaton Hospiscare shop

Local charity Hospiscare has over 20 shops in Devon and relies heavily on the generosity of volunteers to run the stores. In the Seaton shop they have a core group of volunteers but could do with at least five more.

Charity 'Local Heroes' launches new hate crime resources

NEW resources to inspire children and young people to #CallTimeOut on Hate Crime were unveiled at a reception held at Portcullis House, The House of Commons, Westminster in London, ahead of Hate Crime Awareness Week (October 14 to 21).

The charity Local Heroes ( www.lhdiversity.org ) is an education initiative, delivered through schools, to change young people’s attitudes and inspire them to become responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society.

Gregory looking for old photographs for heritage museum

Have you ever worked at Gregory Distribution? Do you have relatives or acquaintances who have worked at Devon’s oldest existing road transport business?

As Gregory Distribution Limited (GDL) approaches its centenary in 2019, the company is calling on all past and present employees to see if they have any old photographs taken at any of its depots in the South West especially ones featuring vehicles.

Public invited to interactive talk on dementia in Exeter

Members of the public are being invited to an interactive talk on, to hear more about the personal experiences of those living with dementia, and the portrayal of the condition in the media.

The event is part the Economic and Social Research Council’s (ESRC) annual Festival of Social Science taking place next month. It is part of the Improving the Experience of Dementia and Enhancing Active Life (IDEAL) Project at the University of Exeter:

Devon schools celebrate the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at St James’s Palace

On Thursday 12th October, representatives from five schools in Devon received a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) Licensed Organisation certificate from celebrity presenter, Philip Schofield at St James’s Palace in London.

The five schools, Exeter College, Teign School, Honiton College, Uffculme School and The King’s School received their licence to deliver The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award alongside 100 young people from the South West who were receiving their Gold Award at a Gold Award Presentation.

Energy company E.ON is offering under 13 football teams in Exeter the chance to get themselves kitted out for free with the launch of its new ‘Power Kicks’ competition. Winning teams will receive 15 full youth kits in sizes and colours of their choosing. West Country accountants and financial planners Old Mill have moved up five places in Accountancy Age’s Top 50+50, reflecting the fact that they had another highly successful year. Local independent adoption agency and charity, Families for Children, are appealing for potential adopters to come forward who will consider adopting a sibling group. If adoptive families cannot be found soon then it is likely that these brothers and sisters will be separated.
