Businesses across the South West worked more closely together in 2020 despite the economic challenges of the pandemic.

A survey of over 100 companies by Collaborate South West found that over two thirds increased levels of collaboration with other organisations, with 80% believing collaboration to be extremely or very important to their business success moving forward.

Residents have the chance to shape the county’s roadmap to net-zero by taking part in the Interim Devon Carbon Plan Consultation.

The consultation, which opens on Monday December 7 and runs for 10 weeks, gives the public an opportunity to influence Devon’s collective response to the global climate emergency and create a healthier, fairer and stronger Devon.

The consultation follows a series of hearings and more than 893 submissions of ideas and evidence from the public.

Devon residents can now buy a range of low cost, safety-checked, TVs and other electrical products from a number of the county’s Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs)

The scheme is being run by SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK Ltd, who operate the HWRCs for Devon County Council. A range of electrical products is now on offer, including vacuum cleaners, lamps and Flat screen TVs.

The goods are being sold within the re-sale shops of five Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs).

New £3.45m programme to boost skills of care and health workers

Proud to Care Devon has successfully secured £3.45million of European funding to help Devon’s health and care workers develop new skills and to encourage others to join the profession. The money was awarded by the European Social Fund, and follows a successful bid by Devon County Council in a partnership with Torbay Council, Plymouth City Council, Devon’s NHS trusts and education and training providers.

Live virtual open events for parents choosing a primary school demonstrate breadth of educational opportunities despite restrictions

The first of three virtual open events was streamed live by Devon’s Cornerstone Academy Trust on 1st December. Parents choosing a school for their children to attend from next September were able to see activity and hear from teachers at all the primary schools in the Trust, and two further events will take place on 10th and 16th December.
