Drivers urged to take care on icy roads after collision on A38

Update: The road has now reopened.

Earlier: One man involved in the earlier multi-vehicle road traffic accident on the A38 and has been taken to Derriford Hospital and is said to be in a critical condition.

There were a total of five collisions involving ten vehicles on the A38 Eastbound carriageway.

The A38 at The Parkway in Plymouth is still closed and slow traffic is queuing eastbound between Manadon Roundabout and Forder Valley Interchange, because of accident investigation work. Approach with care.

The road is expected to be closed until 1pm.

'Naked Ladies' event to raise funds for Carousel Toy Library

Parents from West Exe Children’s Centre are organising a fundraising evening with a difference in aid of Carousel Toy Library, which provides a wide range of good quality toys for children to take home and play with for a week or two.

The toy library, part of the local Merry Go Round charity, faces closure after losing its main funding but families are determined to keep Carousel up and running as it provides a fantastic service for children across the west side of the city.

Stereophonics to play Plymouth Pavilions in March

Stereophonics are to play 10 intimate UK shows in March and Plymouth Pavilions is one of the chosen few venues. The band will return to the city on Saturday 23rd March 2013.

Car-crazy youngsters can look forward to an early experience behind the wheel thanks to a groundbreaking SEAT driving course being launched in Devon.

Distinctive jewellery stolen from Sidmouth home

Police are hunting for burglars who broke into a Sidmouth home and stole thousands of pounds worth of distinctive jewellery. The homeowners returned home on 10th January to find their Sid Lane property had been broken into and the safe stolen.

The offenders got inside the house by carefully removing a ground floor window and ripping out all of the alarm boxes. A tidy search was made throughout the property before the offenders escaped with a safe from the main bedroom.

Ice warning for Devon's roads this morning

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of ice for South West England, which it said is in place until Tuesday night.

Gritting crews in Devon have been out across the county to reduce the risk of ice on roads, but drivers are asked to take care.

It was reported that temperatures dropped to -3C (27F) in some parts on Sunday night. Snow is still affecting some areas, with more snowfall expected in parts of Devon later and on Tuesday.

South West Water will be able to carry out repairs to a collapsed sewer in Exeter ahead of schedule after Devon County Council helped bring forward the start of work.

Contractor May Gurney had been preparing to undertake work on the collapsed sewer in Holloway Street, but repairs were delayed as the site is immediately adjacent to an ancient masonry arch structure, which is a Scheduled Monument, laying deep under the highway.
