Police search Exminster house after man arrested under Terrorism Act

Police are searching a house in Exminster and nearby woods as part of a counter terrorism operation.

A 30-year-old man was arrested in Somerset today [24 August] on suspicion of terrorism offences.

He was arrested at 12.20pm by officers from the Metropolitan Police Service’s Counter Terrorism Command (SO15), supported by colleagues from Avon and Somerset and Devon and Cornwall Police, on suspicion of being involved in the preparation for acts of terrorism under section 5 of the Terrorism Act.

The return of grazing livestock after a gap of many decades has put a rare Mid Devon landscape firmly on the road to recovery.

Eagle eye view from The Point

The finishing touches have been made to the the roof at The Point just 10 weeks from the start of construction.

The Point apartments stand slightly apart from the rest of the development at Exmouth Quay and has a unique modernist design developed by GJR architects.

Plans to protect Exeter's green spaces

Plans for the possible transfer of management of some of Exeter’s best known public green spaces are to be discussed at the meeting of the Scrutiny Committee of Exeter City Council.

The meeting to be held on 8 September will consider a proposal that the long term management of parts of Riverside, Ludwell, Mincinglake, Duryard, Belvidere, Barley Valley and Whitycombe Way be transferred from Exeter City Council to the charity Devon Wildlife Trust.

Pin-prick meningitis test could be available within five years

A test has been developed that could help to diagnose bacterial infections, including meningitis in minutes. If made available through the NHS, this test would significantly reduce the time taken to diagnose the disease and minimise the risk of misdiagnosis.

The new test, developed by a team at Imperial College London, is a major breakthrough in the rapid diagnosis of meningitis and sepsis in children. If made available through the NHS, it could allow treatment to begin much earlier, saving hundreds of lives and reducing the risk of life-changing after-effects.

Thanks to overwhelming support from the local community 24-year old Mark Wakely, a plumber at Fords in Sidmouth, has made it through to the final five in the 2016 UK Plumber of the Year competition. Thank you Devon!
