Tributes for father killed in A35 crash

The family of a Honiton man who died in a motorcycle accident this weekend has paid tribute to his memory today. Andrew Bonetta, 49, died after his motorcycle collided with a milk collection tanker at around 3.47 pm on Sunday (May 18.)

Trust closure concerns for Devon Schools

Three Devon academies will need new financial sponsorship after the Department of Education (DfE) confirmed the closue of the Prospects Academy Trust. The DfE has confirmed that the government are seeking new sponsors for six schools including three in Devon after the Prospects Academy Trust will became the first academies chain to close its doors. A38 restrictions remain during works clearing

Speed restrictions on the A38 will remain in place this weekend as the Highways Agency prepare to close most of England’s roadworks for the bank holiday weekend. The Highways Agency says that works on the A38, near Haldon Hill, cannot be removed due to safety concerns caused by the removal of the road’s safety barrier to fit a contraflow. However, the agency believe that the delays caused by the road work will be “slight”.

Appeal after Aylesbeare robbery

Police are appealing for information following a burglary at a home in Aylesbeare, Exeter, on Saturday (10 May). Offenders forced a door to get inside the home sometime between 9.30am and 7pm. After making an untidy search of the house, they stole a black laptop, a still camera and a £1,500 projector, various items of jewellery and a brass compass in a box. They also took a distinctive scalloped edged silver tray engraved with ‘Ultra International’ which was from a conference in New Delhi. Devon triumph over Cornwall in inter-county football

Devon took home the honours in a thrilling football match with Cornwall at the Stephens Scown Inter-County Shield. In a reversal of the 2013 result, the Devon team won 5-4.

The annual match, which is organised by leading South West law firm Stephens Scown LLP, took place at Launceston FC on Friday, 9 May. The husband of a Devon woman killed while on a fundraising cycle challenge has thanked donators from around the world for their generosity. Sharon Bridgman, 38, was killed in April after she was struck by a motorist whilst on a round-the-world, to raise money for the charity Shelterbox, with her husband. Man dies in Devon tractor accident

A man died when his tractor overturned after leaving a field.

Police, fire and ambulance services were called to the scene at Northmostown near Sidmouth yesterday afternoon (Monday May 19).

The tractor had been towing a trailer when it overturned just before 12:50pm. The male driver was trapped and despite the efforts of emergency crews died at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed.

Communities to set restorative sanctions

Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Hogg has begun a consultation process which will see communities across Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly set their own list of restorative sanctions for low level offences.

Mr Hogg is asking individuals and organisations across the peninsula to take part in the survey on a new Government initiative, the Community Remedy, which will give victims a say in how those who commit low level crime and antisocial behaviour are dealt with.

Body identified after six-year search

The body of a man found in a clay pit in Cornwall has been identified as that of man missing since 2007.

Mr Nicolas Prouse was reported missing from his home in St Dennis, Cornwall, on 30 November 2007. An extensive missing person enquiry was undertaken at the time but he was never located. No reason for his disappearance was ever established.

A member of the public contacted the police on 13 April 2014 after seeing the body of a man below the water line at Trelavour Pit in St Dennis.

The death has been treated as unexplained while police enquiries continue....
