Gary smashes Marathon target

Gary Flint was hoping to raise £1,500 running the London Marathon for local charity Rainbow Living but after completing the grueling 26 miles in a very respectable 4 hours 18 minutes he has smashed this target having raised an incredible £2,300 – and that figure is still climbing!

Exeter Lobster completes London Marathon

Loulou the Lobster, from Exeter completed the London Marathon in six and a half hours on Sunday!

Rachel Marshall a 39-year-old Mortgage Adviser ran the London Marathon on 26 April dressed as a lobster, to raise money for national deafblind charity Sense.

Rachel said: “It was challenging currying around a heavy, warm costume whilst running 26.2 miles, but it was great seeing everyone smile and cheering on the giant lobster scurrying past!”

Rachel was inspired to run for Sense as she used to work at the Plymouth Deaf Association and knows first-hand the challenges...

It's on again! We are delighted to have been chosen for a second time by the Football League to host the South West area's PCUK tournament - Prostate Cancer UK is the official charity of the Football League.

Despite standing water on the pitch, last year's event was a huge success, raising almost £8,000 for PCUK and great fun for all those involved. The four Rotary Clubs of Exeter have announced that their third Teddy Bear Parachute Jump event will take place on Cathedral Green on Saturday 2 May 2015 between 11am and 3pm, raising funds for Honeylands Children’s Charity in Exeter.

The event promises to be a fun packed day for all the family and a thrilling experience for any teddies brave enough to complete the parachute jump from the top of a 100ft high hydraulic platform provided courtesy of the Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

Skin Angels launch song to support teen cancer charity

Exeter’s Skin Angels by Purity Boutique Spa have launched a song aimed at inspiring young people to look after their skin, including protecting it from potential sun damage. The song, called ‘Porcelain’ has been written by Skin Angel’s ambassador, Devon singer / songwriter Clara Bond.

Kim raises £5k for disease research

Renal patient Kim Balsdon, 21 from Patchacott, has raised £5,000 for rare disease charity atypical Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome UK (aHUSUK) by completing a 50 mile sponsored walk.

Kim, who suffers from aHUS herself, walked from Illand near Launceston to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital over three days.

Atypical haemolytic uraemic syndrome (aHUS) is a rare disease that causes blood clots to form in the filtering units of the kidneys. In most cases it is genetic in origin and it can rapidly cause kidney failure.

Ride London in aid of Hospiscare

Hospiscare has three spaces left in the exciting Ride London event taking place on Sunday 2 August 2015.

Celia Wilkinson, Hospiscare’s challenge and running fundraiser said: “This 100 mile road race follows the Olympic 2012 road race route through central London and out into the Surrey countryside, look out for some nasty hills!

"You’ll be joining thousands of other cyclists from all over the UK in one of the fastest growing events on the cycling calendar.”

To ride for Hospiscare there is a £75 registration fee and £600 minimum sponsorship.

Music quiz raises £800 for Hospiscare

A music quiz at Tiverton Golf Club raised nearly £800 for local charity Hospiscare.

People of all ages, including club members, friends and the public, put their knowledge to the test in The Big Fun Music Quiz.

The event attracted 106 people in 18 teams, who raised £780.20 via entry money, a raffle and an auction of the winning prize.

Katie Chantler, head of fundraising for Hospiscare, said: “We want to say a huge thank you to Tiverton Golf Club for hosting the music quiz.
