Coronavirus update: Force Cancer Charity

FORCE Cancer Charity has announced the temporary closure of its Support and Information Centre in Exeter.

The charity will continue to offer telephone and video call support to local people affected by cancer.

The decision to close its Support Centre in the grounds of the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital was taken after consultation with clinical staff at the RD&E.

It follows the first reported cases of Coronavirus/Covid19 at the hospital.

Leading independent West Country housebuilder, Devonshire Homes, has selected the William Wates Memorial Trust to be its charity partner for 2020.

After Devonshire Homes raised £36,000 for local charities from 2017 to 2019, Guy Langworthy, who sits on the Board of Directors, is already training for the next fundraising challenge, Le Loop. Along with his wife Harriett, Guy will be taking on the 2,156 mile Tour de France route in June, one week ahead of the pros, to raise funds for Devonshire Homes’ Charity of the Year.

Dog lover, Debs Jones is used to getting in her daily steps as part of her job involves meeting GPs and NHS teams every day.

The Devon & Somerset health professional facilitator is part of a Cancer Research UK team, whose role is to support cancer prevention, doctors referrals, and promote healthy lifestyles in the county and the south west.

She is supporting Cancer Research UK’s ‘Walk All Over Cancer’ campaign which asks people to walk 10,000 steps a day, every day in March, and raise money for the charity’s life-saving research.

Charity will writing campaign raises £1 million for County Air Ambulance Trust HELP Appeal

A NATIONAL charity will writing campaign has smashed its £1 million fundraising target for the County Air Ambulance Trust HELP Appeal.

Since June 2014, Wills and Legal Services has provided people across the country with a professionally-written Will in exchange for a donation to the appeal.

And the Specialist Paralegal Law Firm reached the magical mark after raising £33,589 in December, bringing the overall total to £1,009,264.25.

The appeal funds life-saving helipads so air ambulances can land directly at hospitals throughout the UK.

A first-time London Marathon competitor is running so that her young children will be able to see wildlife when they grow up.

Franziska Bullimore has entered the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon on behalf of conservation charity Paignton Zoo. Franziska, who has a background in working with animals herself, said: “I’m doing this for our children, for the next generation, in the hope that they will still be able to see amazing plants and animals in the world. It’s about respect for the environment. This is my little contribution.”

PetRocks! Fundraiser for Exeter charity

Exeter Cavern will play host to the first PetRocks! fundraiser gig to help people in the city who are homeless.

Organised by local businessman and guitarist Dan Pritchard, of Susannah and the Noise, the gig on Thursday February 20 at the Gandy Street venue will see proceeds go to local charity St Petrock’s, which is working to address the problems caused by homelessness in and around Exeter.

Susannah and the Noise will be joined by Lottie, Ghost Hands and Charlotte AP for the gig.

Last year, between 45 and 95 people were accessing the charity’s drop-in homelessness...

Families are being invited to get their tickets for ‘Exeter’s brightest’ 5k charity fun run, taking place at Westpoint this summer.

Registration for Rainbow Run on Saturday, June 20 opened yesterday Thursday (January 30), with a 25 per cent discount available for those who sign up early.

More than 1,000 people walked, jogged or ran through a series of coloured paint stations at last year’s event, raising £55,000 for Children’s Hospice South West.
