Luke relishing start of the season

Luke Cowan-Dickie believes Exeter Chiefs will ‘thrive’ on the challenge of trying to defend their Aviva Premiership crown this season.

Having claimed their maiden English title back in May, defeating rivals Wasps in extra time at Twickenham, Rob Baxter’s side are gearing up nicely for their new 2017/18 campaign, which kicks-off on Friday, September 1 with a trip to Gloucester.

And with just a month or so to go before that seasonal opener, the England hooker insists the mood is buoyant at Sandy Park as the Chiefs ready themselves for another big season ahead.

Jack Nowell is back and ‘roaring’ to go ahead of the new season, following his successful tour of New Zealand with the British and Irish Lions – and he’s turning out for a new team!

But worry not Exeter Chiefs fans, for the young star is only making a guest appearance in a select squad put together by club legend Gareth Steenson for his testimonial game.

Jack has volunteered to join his teammate when the match is played on August 12. However, it is not yet clear in what capacity.

Former Gloucester powerhouse Junior Paramore has said he cannot understand why Exeter Chiefs legend Gareth Steenson hasn’t been picked for his national side.

Paramore has been named amongst a Classic Lions side that will take on a Chiefs select XV at Sandy Park on August 12.

New signing for Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs have bolstered their squad ahead of the new 2017/18 season with the acquisition of powerful South African lock Wilhelm van der Sluys.

The 25-year-old forward heads to Sandy Park on a one-year deal from Super Rugby side, the Kings, and becomes Rob Baxter's sixth new addition of the summer, joining the English champions along with James Freeman, Matt Kvesic, Tom O'Flaherty, Toby Salmon and Nic White.

Exeter Chiefs Director of Rugby honoured by the University of Exeter

Exeter Chiefs Director of Rugby Rob Baxter has celebrated another high profile achievement – being awarded an honorary degree by the University of Exeter.

Mr Baxter, who helped lead the rugby team to Premiership victory this year, received his doctorate just a day after his son Jack graduated from the University of Exeter with a first-class degree in Law.

Mr Baxter previously played with the team for 14 years, serving 10 of them as the club’s captain. During his playing career he amassed over 300 appearances at the club’s old County Ground home.

Exeter Foundation designated charities announced for 2017/18

20 charities are set to benefit from the match-day fundraising efforts of the Exeter Foundation during the 2017/18 rugby season.

Set up six years ago by the Exeter Chiefs and a selected group of local businessmen to help promote the local community and the vision of people working within it, the Exeter Foundation has raised over £1 million since its inception.

The Exeter Foundation has helped to directly fund over 80 charities and organisations, including the designated charities each year and several other projects and schemes.

Rob Baxter insists there is a “burning desire” amongst the Exeter Chiefs coaching staff to take the Devon club onto even greater things in the future, after he and his three trusty lieutenants - Ali Hepher, Rob Hunter and Ricky Pellow - today all agreed new three-year deals with the Aviva Premiership champions.
