Devon Wildlife Trust is inviting families to ‘bee creative in the garden’ at a special wild bee family fun day next week. On August 3, the charity will be opening the gates to the Cricklepit Mill wildlife garden for a family event that aims to celebrate bumblebees and solitary bees, heroes of the pollinator world. Children will have the chance to create a range of bee themed craft items, including alder bees to hang in the garden, bee mobiles, badge making and bee jewellery. Exeter College is celebrating a record breaking year by celebrating welcoming their 1,000th apprentice.
The 1,000th Apprentice is Jordanna Broom who is a higher engineering apprentice at the University of Exeter. Jordanna enjoyed her initial engineering training and has decided to pursue her career through one of the college’s higher level apprenticeships.
To celebrate this milestone and the ongoing relationship between the college and the university, a memento has been made by the University’s engineering apprentices and presented to the college.
In March 2016, Exeter Hospiscare nurse Daisy McLauchlan was travelling back from a weekend break on the Isle of Wight, when a call was sent out over the ship’s tannoy system asking for any doctors, nurses or first aiders on board to urgently make their way to the front of the vessel.
Daisy commented: “I was traveling with my husband Christopher, also a medic who was in the washroom when the call went out. So I made my way to the front of the ship where a crowd was gathered. A man was lying on the floor unresponsive and cyanosed.
