Students in Exeter may be entitled to TV Licensing refund

As universities approach the end of term, TV Licensing is reminding cash-strapped students in Exeter that they may be entitled to a refund worth over £50.

Since 1 April 2017, TV Licensing has changed the way refunds are calculated meaning that 23,175 students packing up and moving home for the summer could be entitled to a refund just in time to celebrate the end of their exams. Students can claim for any full months left on their licence; so if they bought their licence last October and moved out in May, they could receive a refund worth around £50.50. Asian hornet nests found by radio-tracking

Electronic radio tags could be used to track invasive Asian hornets and stop them colonising the UK and killing honeybees, new research shows.

Scientists from the University of Exeter attached tiny tags to Asian hornets, then used a tracking device to follow them to their nests; the first time this has been achieved.

They tested the technique in southern France and Jersey (see footnotes) – where Asian hornets are well established – and the tags led researchers to five previously undiscovered nests.

Exmoor and Dartmoor projects contributing to our beautiful National Parks could receive a £2,000 boost in recognition of their work thanks to the Campaign for National Parks’ Park Protector Award.

The Award, sponsored by Ramblers Holidays Charitable Trust, celebrates the work being done to protect and improve National Parks across England and Wales with the winner receiving a £2,000 bursary and a runner up receiving £500 courtesy of Breedon Group.

Preferred contractor selected for Exeter Bus Station redevelopment

Exeter City Council has selected a preferred contractor for its project to create a state-of-the-art new leisure centre and new bus station in the city centre. RD&E welcomes new Filipino nurses

The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust have welcomed the first of several nurses who are joining the Trust following a recruitment exercise in the Philippines.

The nurses, who arrived on the 6th June, are two of over 200 Filipino nurses who have been offered positions at the Trust. The next group of nurses are expected to arrive at the beginning of July.
