New research shows employees in Exeter are the most eager to get back to an office in 2021, once lockdown has ended and restrictions ease.

Despite COVID-19 cases skyrocketing in the country, an analysis of search data found employees in Exeter are the most fed up of working from home and are eagerly seeking an escape from their new way of working during the pandemic.

The data, from flexible workspace experts at BizSpace , revealed a 275% increase for people in Exeter searching for terms related to ‘flexible working spaces’ in between lockdowns, compared to the UK-wide...

SHOPWORKERS are being encouraged to transfer their skills to care by one of Exeter’s providers as analysts predict there will be more than 200,000 retail job losses nationwide in 2021 (January 2021).  

Guardian Homecare, which provides home care in and around Exeter, says experts report high street retailers are facing a terrible year ahead with more than 15,700 store closures anticipated.

LGBTQIA communities to help create new Exeter play showing history of loneliness and exclusion

A new play co-created by people living in the South West – due to be performed in Exeter – will show the long history of LGBTQIA loneliness and marginalisation.

Mistreatment and exclusion from society has meant LGBTQIA communities have created their own spaces for solidarity, creativity, and dialogue. Dr Charlotte Jones and Dr Fred Cooper, from the University of Exeter, will work with organisations and individuals in Devon and Cornwall to develop and stage the new production, as well as to discuss the endemic issue of LGBTQIA exclusion.

Exeter boy donates presents to less fortunate children

A PUPIL at an Exeter Primary School who opted to donate presents to children less fortunate, on his birthday, rather than receiving them himself has been presented with a Certificate of Thanks.

Eight-year-old Kai Errington, who attends Westclyst Community Primary School, not only gave all his presents away, but some of his school friends also supported him and donated presents as well.

The gifts were delivered to children in Exeter by volunteers from Inclusive Exeter (IE), which, for some months, has been operating a food project delivering food parcels to those in need...

TWO actors whose parents died from cancer have decided to put on their walking boots and support Cancer Research UK’s latest fundraising campaign.

Josie Kemp and Lauren Soley, both 26, are supporting Walk All Over in March to support the charity’s life-saving research. The charity is encouraging people to get sponsored to walk 10,000 steps every day.

The couple though are determined to walk 100 miles of the Jurassic Coast in March and go that extra to make a difference. Lauren and Josie have been together almost 4 years and met as actors in Les Misérables in The West End...

Turner & Townsend has established a new office in Exeter to support the growth of the business in the South West of England.

The global professional services business already employs over 300 staff in the region, having worked with clients in the region for over 20 years. This permanent base, located in Exeter’s Emperor Business Park, will support service provision to current and future clients across Devon, Dorset and Cornwall.

Devon's care workers 'deserve to be recognised and better paid'

Devon’s care workers need to be recognised now for their vital contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic by being better valued and rewarded, according to Devon County Council’s (DCC) Cabinet Member for Adult Health and Social Care, Councillor Andrew Leadbetter.

More care workers are needed to provide care to older people and those with disabilities or mental health needs.

There are currently approximately 1,500 permanent care vacancies in Devon, and many other additional temporary vacancies due to COVID-19.

Devon has seen a fall in the number of positive cases, across all age groups, Public Health Devon has confirmed.

"The current restrictions are helping to bring down the number of positive cases in Devon," says Steve Brown, Director of Public Health Devon.
