Risk of evacuation for home owners in Halberton has receded, as Fire Brigade pumps are successfully lowering the level of flood water in a field adjacent to the breached Grand Western Canal.
Reinforced dams at either side of the breach are holding up.
Pumps are also removing water from the eastern end and western end of the canal to help regulate canal water levels.

The day's delay in the Christmas lights switch on just seemed to add to the air of anticipation this evening, when the people of Exeter came out in force to kickstart Christmas and watch the evening's performers.

A warning has been issued to residents in Devon to take extra care as the county continues to suffer the effects of severe weather, with further heavy rainfall expected over the weekend.
A band of heavy rain crossed the county yesterday evening, causing flooding and surface water problems on Devon’s road network including the A377 (Longford Bridge, Half Moon and Bishop's Tawton), A396 Ashleigh Tip and Chitterley, and B3181 at Uffculme. The Fire Service was called to a report of a car on fire at the Magdalen Street car park at the junction of Western Way and South Steet in Exeter city centre.
A fire engine from Danes Castle was sent to the incident, where crews extinguished the ca using foam and two sets of breathing apparatus. The car was severely damaged by fire and a further six vehicles were also damaged but nobody was hurt in the incident.
Stagecoach have informed The Exeter Daily that the Halberton Road at Sampford Peverall will be closed from 1pm to 8pm today. Service 1 will be on diversion, missing out both Sampford Peverall and Tiverton Parkway, instead going straight to Willand.
