Multi-million pound ambulance hub proposed for Exeter Skypark

Plans have been submitted for a "multi-million pound" ambulance hub at Exeter's Skypark, from which crews will be able to swiftly respond to both local and national emergencies.

Developer St Modwen along with Devon Country Council has submitted a planning application for what will become the first commercially occupied building at Exeter's £210 million Skypark business zone.

The 24,165 sq ft purpose-built facility will be built on behalf of the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, which will acquire the freehold when complete.

Fitness trainers of the future battle it out in regional competition

Young people from across the region took part in a series of tests on Thursday as Exeter College hosted the inaugural South West CYQ Fitness Trainer Competition. Students from Exeter College’s Exercise and Fitness and Personal Trainer and Sports Massage courses were joined by competitors from Petroc to decide who would be the South West winners and go through to the National final.

Opening Day for the new TABS Training centre

Approximately 30 people attended the Opening Day of the new TABS Training Centre in Exeter, including the Lord Mayor Councillor Rob Newby who officially opened the centre. There was also representation from local businesses and charities supporting the Opening Day.

New education programme gets a Kick Start from Exeter City

Exeter City FC’s Football in the Community Charitable Trust is to pilot a new three-year learning engagement project, Kick Start, in conjunction with ATASS Respect, to work with children attending schools in the Exeter area.

The programme aims to support 30 children each year who may be at risk of disengaging from education for various reasons. Those who will be invited on to the programme will have shown a capacity to respond to alternative methods of learning, but could be vulnerable to low levels of academic achievement.

An Art for Life charity auction takes place on Saturday 11 May 2013 at the Royal Clarence Hotel in Cathedral Yard, Exeter.

National Trust volunteers make an unprecedented contribution on Exmoor

In the past year nearly 45,000 hours of volunteer time have been devoted to looking after National Trust owned property on Exmoor.

The latest figures for volunteering on just the National Trust properties inside the Exmoor National Park show that 748 volunteers contributed an astonishing 44,470 volunteer hours in the twelve month period to March 2013.

It is the first time that the volunteer data has been compiled in this way to include every NT property within the National Park boundary - Dunster Castle, West Exmoor, Exmoor Bunkhouse and the Holnicote Estate.

Preparation has started on the build for this year's Devon County Show on 16-18 May. A team of eight contractors are making the showground home for the next month as they build marquees equivalent in size to approximately four football pitches.
