Walkies! Dress up your dog and pull on your walking boots for a good cause

WESC Foundation is calling for entries to its sponsored walk - WALK FOR WESC - which takes place on Sunday 7 July at 2pm at Ugbrook Park in Chudleigh, Devon.

The Exeter-based charity provides learning, care and therapy for more than 100 children and young people with sight loss and complex needs at its campus on Topsham Road. The event, sponsored by Savills in Exeter, includes a fancy dress competition for dogs and their owners and has three routes with stunning views around the impressive country grounds.

“We wanted to do something fun to raise funds for the children we care for and this year we are giving away a professional photo shoot with a dog photographer for the owner and dog that have the most inventive and fun fancy dress costumes. We have had a lot of buzz about this and people are coming up with very interesting concepts!” said Caroline Burkie, Fundraising and PR Manager for the charity.

“We really do have something for every ability at the Walk for WESC event, from a short 20-minute stroll to a more energetic hour-long walk. We also have wheelchair and push chair friendly routes too.”

There is a £5.00 entry fee and the charity also hopes participants will raise extra funds via sponsorship.

“We are offering three really great prizes for our sponsorship competition. We have a lunch for two at Gidleigh Park for the winner of the adult competition and a family day out to Woodlands Family theme park for the winning child. We didn’t want to forget our other important participant - the family dog - and the dog with highest sponsorship will win an official guided walk for them and their family on Dartmoor National Park thanks to Moorland Guides. People always work really hard to secure sponsorship but we hope this acts as an extra incentive as well as a nice reward for their efforts too,” said Caroline.

There will also be live music and other fun stalls at the event and refreshments will also be available, including cream teas.
