Doctors in Devon are celebrating the 65th birthday of a “national treasure” today – the NHS.

Since the NHS launched on 5 July 1948 it has continually developed and in April this year groups of GPs and clinicians were given the responsibility of buying most healthcare services, including acute hospitals and mental health services.

Warming and greening Devon's churches

Devon’s churches are getting greener. Eighty churches from all over the South West took part in a pioneering conference to look at heating their buildings more effectively. Churches are encouraged to carry out energy audits or benchmarking to determine both the use of their buildings and also energy demands, with a view to making more efficiencies in the future. First reservations taken within minutes of Exeter retirement village launch

Reservations have already been made for properties in Exeter’s new luxury retirement village, Millbrook Village – with the first taking place within minutes of the doors opening, reports Exeter property agency Wilkinson Grant & Co.

Over £500 was raised for local charity Dream-a-Way during a fabulous evening hosted by Woodbury Hotel & Golf Club. The evening was opened by Jeff Merrett of Dream-A-Way and by brave teenager, Catherine Boult who gave a heart-warming talk about how the charity had helped her and her family over the years.

Help needed to identify Devon’s privately fostered children

Devon County Council is asking people across the county to help them identify children living under private fostering arrangements, so can they offer support and advice.

The call to action is part of Private Fostering Week starting on Monday 8 July. Run by the British Association for Adoption and Fostering , the week aims to raise awareness of private fostering. Children living with someone who isn't their parent or close relative for more than four weeks are classed as being privately fostered. Tree planting to celebrate 50 years of the Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital

A tree-planting ceremony was held on Friday to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital.

Staff including Matron Paula Winter and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Mr Keith Eyres joined with Colonel Paul Baldry, chairman of the Patient Focus Group at the Nuffield who led the planting. Colonel Baldry said “The hospital has now been here for 50 years, serving hundreds of thousands of patients and providing work for many local people and companies.”

RAMM was presented with the Collections Best Practice Award at the OpenCulture 2013 conference reception at the Kia Oval on Tuesday 2 July.
