Magdalen Chapter ladies plan to 'bear' all

WOMEN who work at The Magdalen Chapter in Exeter will going ‘Bear Faced’ for the day in aid of BBC Children in Need.

Staff at the city centre hotel will be ditching their make-up on Friday 8th November to raise money for the national appeal.

The Exeter women will be joining TV favorites such as Alex Jones (pictured) and Arlene Phillips, actress Sheridan Smith plus many more high profile celebrities who have also pledged to have a day without makeup.

RSPCA says firework phobia could be a thing of the past for your dog

Firework phobia could be a thing of the past for pet dogs according to the RSPCA, which is bracing itself for another busy bonfire night season.

The charity regularly receives more than three-quarters of all calls about fireworks in October and November, when Guy Fawkes and Diwali celebrations are in full swing.

Last year there were 326 fireworks related calls in those two months alone. That is 75% of the 436 received across the whole year.

Champion jockey opens bar named in his honour at Exeter Racecourse

Champion jockey AP McCoy has said he is ‘delighted’ that Exeter Racecourse, where he rode his first ever winner on English soil in 1994, has renamed one of its bars AP’s, which he officially opened at a race meeting there on Tuesday.

The 18-times champion jockey and 2010 Sports Personality of the Year winner booted home Chickabiddy, who was trained locally on Exmoor by Gordon Edwards, to win some 19 years ago on September 7. The champion is now 20 winners away (correct Oct 24) from achieving a record breaking 4,000 winners under Rules.

Owner admits leaving cat to suffer

Denise Mortimore, 42, of Glasshouse Lane, Exeter, was yesterday (23 October) fined and ordered to pay costs after she admitted causing unnecessary suffering to her cat at Exeter Magistrates' Court.

The court heard that black cat Diesel, aged three and a half years old, had been left without veterinary treatment for a skin condition which had left him with scabs and extensive fur loss across his head and back.

The RSPCA attended in June 2013 after receiving concerns about Diesel's welfare.

Telecoms staff protect themselves against flu with a “win-win” immunisation programme

South West Communications Group staff have been invited to take part in a company-wide immunisation programme to protect themselves against the flu virus this winter.

The telecommunications firm first offered its staff free flu jabs last year in an effort to keep sick days at a minimum during the colder months.

Water power is used to produce their signature stoneground wholemeal flour, continuing in a 1,000-year-old tradition.
