South West High streets are set to become ‘dementia friendly’ as several major retailers commit to offering their staff training to help those with the condition. The initiative launched by the Alzhiemer’s society will see staff at 60 Homebase and Argos stores as well as some branches of Marks and Spencer and Lloyds bank train to become ‘Dementia Friends’ who help people with dementia live more independently. Devon NHS wins wins award for Apprentices

A Devon NHS organisation has won an award for its work in promoting the recruitment of apprentices.

The Northern, Eastern and Western Devon Clinical Commissioning group (NEW Devon CCG) scooped the Education Training Skills (ETS) Large Employer of the Year Award at a ceremony at the Buckerell Lodge in Exeter on 4 March.

It was a double success for the NHS organisation on the night after Howard Stamp, acting safety systems officer with the nursing directorate, also won the ETS Apprentice of the Year for Outstanding Contribution Award.

Exeter College students and staff are celebrating after being rated as outstanding by education inspectors. The college, which was also rated outstanding by Ofsted less than two years ago, has become the first college in Devon and Cornwall to reach the standard under a new ratings framework. Staff at Exeter’s John Lewis and Waitrose stores were delighted today after receiving an annual bonus worth 15% of their salaries - the equivalent to nearly 8 weeks of pay.
