Teenager witnessed 'horrific scene' following collision

A teenager has told The Exeter Daily how she witnessed the horrific scene following the accident in which a 12-year-old boy died.

The girl, who has asked not to be named, said she was returning from work when she saw paramedics treating the boy.

She said: “There was a lot of commotion and emergency vehicles on the scene, and they had put a large white sheet to cover up what was going on.

“I’ve never seen anything like that before so it must have been pretty horrific.”

A 12-year-old boy has died after after he was involved in a collision with a skip lorry on a zebra crossing in Exeter yesterday afternoon (Thursday 28 August).

Police attended a road traffic collision at around 3.10pm on Topsham Road, near Countess Wear.

The collision happened on the zebra crossing on the Topsham side of Countess Wear roundabout and involved a 12-year-old boy, who was a pedestrian, and a skip lorry.

Police in Newton Abbot have issued images of two suspects they wish to identify following a spate of high value shoplifting offences. The two suspects are believed to be responsible for a series of high value shoplifting offences that have occurred in Newton Abbot, Plymouth and East Devon. On each occasion they act together, with the woman initially entering the store, selecting high value cosmetics and electrical items which she places in a basket.

Estimated times: Tour of Britain Devon stage

Devon will be beamed live to a worldwide TV audience when the Friends Life Tour of Britain races through the county on Thursday 11 September.

The race will again be broadcast live on ITV4, with ITV showing the opening Stage One from Liverpool.

Recruitment day targets 20 new jobs

Gregory Distribution Limited (GDL) has announced a huge recruitment drive in the wake of recent growth and strategic acquisitions.

The warehouse and logistics group, which includes Kay Transport and Hayton Coulthard Transport, currently employs nearly 1,500 people over 22 sites nationwide, but estimates it could require in excess of 100 new recruits over the next 12 months.
