Devon Cycle Challenge launches

People across the county are being invited to take part in the Devon Cycle Challenge which starts next week.

Devon County Council is working with Love to Ride, as part of the National Cycle Challenge, to launch the new initiative which is aiming to get more people in Devon on their bikes.

The event is a fun, free and sociable competition which is open to all local organisations and businesses, to see who can get the most people cycling between Monday 8 June and Sunday 28 June.

On Saturday 30th May 1,500 runners took part in the world’s most colourful 5km, running, walking and dancing, filling Great Fulford grounds with colour.

Bringing the spectacular explosion of Run or Dye colour to the beautiful grounds and extensive parkland of the Great Fulford estate, the event saw runners and walkers of all ages and abilities to enjoy the most colourful event Great Fulford has ever seen.

Urgent appeal to find missing woman

Officers are becoming increasingly concerned for the welfare of a missing Weymouth woman and are asking for the public’s help in finding her.

Anita Hansford, 55, was last seen at 8.30am on Saturday 30 May 2015 at her home in the Sutton Poyntz area of the town.

It is believed that Anita (pictured) was in the Weymouth or Dorchester area at around 11am on Saturday morning and may have travelled to Exeter arriving by 6.30pm. Her whereabouts at this time are unknown.

Anita is described as white, five feet six inches tall, of medium build with shoulder-length hair dyed...

Changes to how police deal with fuel bilking

Devon and Cornwall Police are continuing to change the way non-payment of fuel incidents are dealt with, to ensure the best service possible can be given to the public with the existing resources.

Across Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in 2015 the Force received around 1,600 reports where a customer had left without paying for fuel from a garage forecourt. These are not offences of fraud or theft, where there are indications of intent such the use of false number plates. Samaritans answer 48,000 calls for help

Some 116 Samaritans volunteers from Exeter, Mid and East Devon branch have answered 47,588 calls, emails and texts for help in the last 12 months.

The figures are being issued to coincide with Volunteers Week from June 1 to June 7, organised to highlight the work of the charity’s volunteers.

Like all Samaritans volunteers across the country these are ordinary people who dedicate time each week to provide a safe space for anyone struggling to cope.

One local volunteer is Sally who, like many, came to Samaritans after a personal experience.

Twins celebrate a golden jubilee

Fifty years ago the City of Exeter twinned with the German town of Bad Homburg.

During the intervening years many friendships between various groups in both locations have developed and grown. One of these is the strong link between Exeter’s South Street Baptist Church and Bad Homburg’s Free Church, the Evangelisch Freikirchliche Gemeinde.

1,351 neon night runners race through Exeter

A total of 1,351 crazily dressed runners raced through Exeter’s city streets on Saturday night causing quite a stir!

They were taking part in Exeter’s first ever neon night run and raised tens of thousands of pounds for local end of life charity Hospiscare.
