Free foodie children’s fun in Exeter

Bring your children along to Exeter’s Princesshay on Saturday (6 June) between 10am and 3pm for some fabulous free foodie fun in the kitchen.

Fun Kitchen will be running cookery workshops every hour, on the hour, free to all, to celebrate the launch of Hospiscare’s Big Devon Bake Off 2015.

Children can learn new skills by getting their hands dirty and getting stuck in making some tasty treats.

Make a connection to fostering

Devon County Council's fostering service is asking local residents to make a connection to fostering as part of Foster Care Fortnight 2015, to raise awareness of the need to recruit more foster carers.

With around 650 children currently in the care of the local authority, the Council is asking people if they believe they have the skills to make a positive change to the lives of children and young people, then consider becoming a foster carer.

Exeter girl wins Silverstone rally competition

Silverstone Rally School searches for a future rally star every year to participate in a series of rallying events. This year, the winner was a girl named Stephanie Clark who lives in Exeter.

Each year, Silverstone Rally School holds their annual Rally Quest competition. Usually a separate competition will be held for males and females, but this year both sexes competed together. Despite initial uncertainties about competing with the men, Stephanie gave it her all and managed to win the competition outright.

The Festival takes place on the 16th, 17th and 18th July in St. Margaret’s Church, Topsham.

We will be open from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. on the Thursday and Friday and until 5.00 p.m. on the Saturday.

The funds raised this year will be shared between St. Margaret’s Church, Action on Hearing Loss and the Exeter Royal Academy for the Deaf.

The theme is SOUNDS WE LOVE, a challenging subject given the charities chosen and exhibitors are coming up with an interesting range of titles!

One in three children have not heard a cow moo or a sheep baa up close

Hearing a real cow moo or a sheep baa for the first time is a special moment but a new survey of primary school children has revealed that this experience is becoming increasingly rare.

The results show that more than 1 in 3 children have never heard a sheep baa (37 per cent) or a cow moo (34%) up close, with thousands only experiencing it through their TV or computer screens. The theme of this year’s Devon County Council’s exhibit gave Devon County show-goers the chance to get involved in helping their local community, as well as taking part in activities.

The council’s marquee at the 120th County Show focussed on communities and volunteering, with staff providing a host of information to visitors on ways to connect with their communities and to get more involved in local schemes, whilst also providing show-goers with lots of opportunities to participate in an array of activities.
