Thunderstorms and rain warning for Devon

A weather warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms has been issued for Devon.

Met Office forecasters say isolated heavy, and possibly severe, thunderstorms are expected to develop on Friday evening across parts of England and Wales.

These are likely to become more frequent later and spread northwards towards southern Scotland.

Some torrential downpours are possible leading to localised surface water flooding, with large hail and frequent lightning also possible hazards.

Man charged following Exeter drugs warrant

A man has been charged after officers carried out a drugs warrant at an address in Tedburn St Mary, Exeter.

A Misuse of Drugs Act warrant was executed at the property on the morning of Wednesday 1 July by officers from Newton Abbot CID and the South Devon Tasking Team.

Entry was forced to the address and what is believed to be a sophisticated cannabis growing operation was located inside.

A man was located at the premises and arrested.

Child exploitation helpline launches

The ‘Say Something’ helpline targeted at children and young people with concerns about child sexual exploitation (CSE) has been launched this week. The new, free, 24/7 helpline number is: 116 000.

The helpline is run by the charity Missing People, in association with the National Working Group Network, and is funded by the Department of Education. Callers will be offered advice and, where appropriate, necessary or requested, access to the police to ensure protection and safeguarding.

Children and Families in Exeter will be able catch both of PaddleBoat Theatre Company's exciting new shows - A Little Man's Holiday and According to Arthur... - when they perform at the BikeShed Theatre later this month, on the 22nd and 23rd July respectively.

PaddleBoat was founded a mere 18 months ago, but has flourished in Exeter, creating shows and delivering workshops to schools across the South-West. Devon Maritime Forum meeting to explore water quality

Beaches and bathing water quality will be discussed at the Devon Maritime Forum meeting next week.

With tougher bathing water quality targets coming into force this year, and following the introduction of the EU’s revised Bathing Water Directive, the meeting at Saunton Sands Hotel in Braunton on Tuesday 7 July, will focus on key marine and coastal water quality issues.

The meeting will explore the improvements made to water quality, the challenges which remain, and the various solutions required to help tackle the issue.

Police search for pink paint vandal

British Transport Police (BTP) is appealing for information after a vandal painted parts of the railway infrastructure in Exeter, causing £500 worth of damage.

A railway signal, ladder, junction box and 20 sleepers were all painted bright pink close to Polsloe Bridge station on Sunday, 14 June. Officers have now released a photograph of the scene and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward information.
