New walking football session at Exeter Uni

Exeter City’s Football in the Community team are delighted to offer a new Walking Football session at the University of Exeter.

Aimed at the over 55s - male and female - the game is ideal for those who would like a gentle reintroduction to physical activity or who need to improve their baseline fitness.

Of course, people are more than welcome to just come along to have some fun and meet new friends!

The sessions are split into ten-minute games so participants can do as much, or as little, as they feel appropriate. They take place every Wednesday from 6-7pm at the University of Exeter's Sports Park and cost £3.00 a session.

Turn up to any of the sessions – which also run in Wonford on Tuesdays from 11.30am -12.30pm and Sidmouth on Thursdays from 6-7pm – and the first one is free.

"Walking football is becoming increasingly popular – players from some of our sessions have even participated in national tournaments already,” said Pete Ferlie, Exeter City’s Health and Wellbeing Officer.

“Of course, our sessions are open to anyone regardless of footballing ability, gender, shape or size – we are getting many referrals from local GPs who recognise this is a good option for some of their patients who need the health benefits of gentle activity. Players can just come along and try the sport and have great fun while getting some pain-free exercise."

Anyone interested can email peter.ferlie@exetercityfc.co.uk or telephone 07796 586003 for more information, or simply turn up and watch before taking the plunge!
