Jamil sets his sights on British Curry Awards

Jamil Miah, founder of Denley's Essence of India in Topsham, is hoping to garner some all-important support from fans of the popular Indian restaurant for the chance of winning a prestigious British Curry Award later this year. Having been shortlisted four times already, since 2009, Jamil says he is excited about the possibility of coming away with a grand prize this year.

Kitsons raise £5k in Three Peaks Challenge

Twenty-four members of staff from leading Devon law firm Kitsons braved the elements and successfully overcame the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.

Their reward for completing what is known as one of the toughest challenges in the UK was raising more than £5,000 for Diabetes UK in memory of their colleague Mark Batten.

Mark, who was Chief Cashier at Kitsons, passed away suddenly in March 2014. He worked at Kitsons for over 35 years and was a prominent and well liked member of the firm.

Exeter CAB reports huge rise in urgent debt

Leading local advice charity, Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau, has today published its advice trend statistics for July 2015.

The charity helped 17% more people; with 2435 people helped directly with advice and information on 5446 individual problems since 1 April 2015.

Clients with urgent, or priority debts, owed an average of £3,039.92 to their creditors, an increase of 122.3% on the previous year. Urgent debts include things like mortgage, rent and council tax.
